Huge LinkBuilding Campain - Let's Come Up With The Perfect Strategy Together

    Hello all,

I launched new business directory about 3 months ago. Ever since, I have been making links slowly but steadily. The site has already started ranking for several related terms. It has over 50k pages (the number is growing steadily) and has been indexed by Google almost in full.

The site has about 1k category pages which contain the terms that I would like it to rank for. With such an amount of pages, and a relatively new site, you have to be very careful... Building 5 links for each page would result in 5k links which is huge for a new site.. So, I would like your help to try and determine what the right method is to approach this.

What kind of links would you build? How fast? How many different URLs would you like to? How would you diversify the anchor text/destination URL?

Some ideas that I came up with to start brainstorming:

    1) Press Releases - publish a series of newsworthy press releases with links to the site. Assuming the average of 3 links in each PR, I would give 1 to the homepage with the title of the site, and the other 2 would go to category pages.

    2) Social Bookmarks - that's a tough one. Obviously, we would start by making a lot of bookmarks for the homepage... that is also something that would happen naturally (it already has) since the site is really good. But would you bookmark the category pages? If so, how many bookmarks for each? Would you use different accounts, different social bookmarking sites? Would you skip that altogether because it could hurt the site since it's borderline spammy if done on a big scale?

    3) Relevant comments - another tough one... We would have to find relevant and high quality blogs/posts and leave good comments with a link to the site - even if we were to do that, only a small percentage would actually get approved, so while it could be effective, it will be very time consuming.

    4) Buying blog posts - good one, but time consuming and can be very costly if done at a large scale.

    5) Directories - are they worth it anymore? I don't really think so.

    6) Forum posting - good if done right. We would have to find relevant forums and make informative posts that help people. In return, we could either link to the site through a signature, or through an actual post as a reference.

    7) Web 2.0s - that could be very helpful... but how many would you make? What would you link to? Which anchors would you use?

    8) Article submissions - same as the above. How many? Spun or unique? What would you link to? Which anchors?

We have to remember that for a good SEO campaign with long lasting results, it's important to avoid excessive link building and spammy links.

What do you think? Any comments on the above? Any other ideas?

hmm... even though having thousands of pages indexed, still it won't worthy (doesn't have good rank). all you have to do is whenever you create a new page or a section fill it up with the original and trending content (rather than creating low popular content, its better to create a hot topic content). In this way we can organically gain the traffic and there will be a chance to achieve good ranking for the pages too. What i wante to say is achieve "organic traffic"... remember that people who visit your pages / site are not only the normal web surfers but also people like you. there is a chance to gain linkbacks when your content is useful.

think of it and all the best :)

Good point. Obviously Social Media is at the very top of the list - especially nowadays.. Any more ideas? If we covered all the types of links, then how about we start talking about where those links would be pointing to... how many and how often... what anchors?

In regards to your social bookmarking and creating multiple accounts, some of the larger social bookmarks will prevent you from making multiple bookmarks for the same IP as some websites such as Digg are constantly hammered by spammers. I would sit down and think how would I naturally gain backlinks from this website with great content and how can you fast track it, if the links look like they are coming from natural methods, that's the way to win the trust of Google.
