Cool. Thanks. As I said my real objective is to moderate the extreme ends of the browser fanaticism. IE7 and FF2 each have their warts and blemishes. What we need to do is honestly look at each browser and when there is an issue find out what is really causing it. Blanket browser 'X' sucks statements are not constructive.
I agree with you on the blame thing. I hate it when someone says all pc's with xp crash, yet I have had so few issues on xp that I would be scared to upgrade to vista. I tried to look at things in perspective. I agree that IE is more vulnerable, but since I stay away from questionable sites and am very, very, very cautious on downloads, I don't have issues anyways. I have cleaned peoples computers of spyware and viruses and have educated them on it, along with suggesting firefox for their benefit.
I'm the same on both respects. I have one WinXP computer that crashes all the time and one WinXP computer that never crashes even if left running for weeks. It isn't WinXP's fault the one computer crashes, it has a hardware issue (more exactly a video card issue). To claim WinXP sucks because my one computer regularly crashes isn't fair. I'm really hoping that IE7 stems the tide of Spyware, but like you I routinely clean spyware and viruses off of peoples computers because they use IE6. IE6 can be secured to an extent and people's surfing habits really make a difference. On this issue I think IE7 needs to be given a chance to prove it has resolved IE6's security issues.
I like all three. Opera, FF, and IE I think Opera is my most used one though, IE and FF are about tied for second.
In Response to ly2... we shouldnt have to watch our browsing habits so closely to avoid spyware, if we want to browse for some free ringtones or free porn or whatever... then our browser should help us to do this without getting attacked.
Firefox all the way. My uncle recently fixed my computer and reformatted it and put IE7 on it. Within 5 mins of using it. It crashed 4 times. Now please tell me how that is more stable that firefox?
i voted ie7 for FF2.0 please try. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function do_crash() { var range; range = document.createRange(); range.selectNode(document.firstChild); range.createContextualFragment('<span></span>'); } </script> </head> <body onload="do_crash()"> <p>Good bye Firefox!</p> </body> </html> PHP:
This doesn't mean there is a problem with IE7, it means there is an issue with your computer. It could be a driver issue, a hardware issue, a configuration issue, etc.
I only use IE for Gmail, and firefox for the rest. Firefox seems to be more user friendly for me, no doubt about that.
This does not mean that there isn't a driver or other Windows XP issue on your computer. It just means that Firefox isn't affected by the problem. Again if IE7 is crashing on your system you need to look for a system level problem. IE7 crashing isn't the problem, it is the result of a lower level issue with your computer.
I'm simply saying that the problem probably isn't IE7, thus you are saying IE7 sucks for something that isn't its fault. I am not saying you should use IE7 (I personally use Firefox). It is unfair to blame IE7 for something that is being caused by something else.
