Found this video on another forum BBC documentary the power of nightmares A classic BBC documentary that explores how governments (it concentrates on the US and UK) manipulated their citizens into believing certain things by using the politics of fear after 911. 60 minutes long - it's very hard to watch for those who believe that governments don't lie. Unfortunately the politics of fear is still happening and unfortunately people are being killed, imprisoned, tortured based on what they "might" do rather than the "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" days. Unfortunately citizens rights are being taken away on what seems a daily basis based purely on the politics of fear. Commenting after you have watched it all would be good.
There's 3 parts to that 3 hour documentary and it's great. I have brought it up here previously. The right-wingers here say it's propaganda.
OK, sorry - didn't know that it had been bought up before. Perhaps the right wingers should actually watch it. In many years of watching BBC documentaries I have never seen one that was propaganda. The most balanced TV programming one could watch.
"Blimy kangaroo down mates, blimy kangaroo down..blimy"........sorry I was just trying to fit in with you guys.
Well our dear old Rolf isn't Aussie either. He's British and so is "blimy", though Australia is full of Brits and we are pretty multi-cultural. All you need is to be able to enjoy life and allow for others to enjoy life to be a good Aussie.
You're good natured discussion about Brits and Aussies can alleviate people's fear of the politics of fear..
The people are great, but our pollies are not so great. They've turned from naively running the country into seriously deluded individuals. The result of corporate lobbyists (& following USA lead) I believe. The Liberals (Republicans) certainly tried the politics of fear and were heading us into the police state the US seems to love but, with Labor in power it cooled down somewhat though the right-wing Laborites are doing what they do best & using every trick they can to keep the country hostage to the lobbyists.
Seen all three now - thanks for that. It's quite scary how history keeps repeating and how the politics of fear works so well. Looks like Iran is being painted as the danger to the world and US freedom at the moment. So that poor old heavily sanctioned country is in trouble. They need a good nuclear deterrent. Pakistan is a good chance of being next but the US leaving Afghanistan might save them. What the world needs is a US president that the neo-conservatives can pick on so they are concentrating internally rather than looking outwards.
