Before contacting the host contact the website owner directly, give them a couple of days to respond. If after 3 - 5 days of no response contact the web host and tell them your situation, you are going to have to prove that you are the original author, and this is not easily done, but once proof is established most likely they will delete the content or take down the website. If the content is hosted on a foreign host and is not US, UK, CA, or other places that have DCMA complaints most likely there will be nothing you can do.

Wish you the best of luck.

Don't worry. Google will caught it soon. You can also discuss the problem on the Google webmaster forum.

FCM has a good solution to resolve your problem, a friendly approach should work, else contact the host or copyscape the work you have published online to declare ownership. good luck with fixing the problem.

    good story.

I will try to contact the site owner and request removing the content immediately.

If the owner does not reply or refuse to do so, I will contact their web host directly.

Mostly likely the content will be deleted or their website will be taken down.

You don't need to worry as Google never allow that website to go ahead of you in ranking as its copy your content. Have you register with copyscape? If not please check how it works. Secondly you tell the owner of the website that he has steal your content and request him to remove it immediately from his website.

google is starting to focus a lot more on the original owner of the content, this can be a big issue if he stole your content and was indexed first or google is giving them the majority of the juice for that page. If it looks like the person has money you can send them a notice and see if you can settle out of court for a few hundred dollars or more, since the maximum fine is like 30k a lot of people will pay up as long as you send a letter that looks professional.

In the end i would likely just sit down and rewrite the content on that page so i dont see any issues on my site as far as rankings go.

Firstly contact the webmaster regarding the content he/she has copied. If the webmaster fails to reply or remove the content then I would contact the host and file a DMCA complaint.

You do not need to worry about this. Search engine has the ability to track the copied content, so all harm goes to them, not to you. :)

That is not always true. It is possible that the copied content can get indexed before the real content, therefore penalizing the original owner.

Unfortunately, most of the information provided thus far is incorrect. We have had this happen numerous times and are currently involved in a copyright infringement
by a porn site that involves Hostgator, and Privacy Protect.org

When you are trying your best to build a good website and develop your business, you will not rank in the SERP results for your own content. Most times someone that uses a 'scrapebox' will rank in the top positions using excerpts of your work. Also someone that is extremely 'niche focused' that steals your content will probably rank for it where you don't.

The procedure is you should contact the site owner and ask them to take it down, or to comply with your copyright. eg: anchor text links back to your site are intact within an article. Where this becomes a problem is contacting the site owner when companies like Privacy Protect are involved. Privacy Protect is the absolute worst. They are a Russian owned company, that has a Luxembourg business address, that refuses all snail mail. You are required to submit any requests through their website, but they can and will block your IP address from accessing their systems. Privacy Protect is a foreign corporation doing business in the USA, they are registered in the state of Delaware and thus have a 'Registered Agent' there as required by law to receive court services and or snail mail contact. Privacy Protect's email address is

If this does not work your next step is contacting their host. You are required to fill out paperwork and submit it to the host. This can be done electronically (email) and they are required to comply and remove the infringed material. Hosts like Hostgator state that you must have an independent 3rd party authenticate your signature, but this is not required under DMCA. Unfortunately most hosting companies, including HostGator even when you prove it to them, will not take the info down until you submit the DMCA complaint AND comply with their 3rd party signature requirement, even though DMCA does not require the 3rd party signature authentication.

To get the material listing removed, contact the 2 major SE, Google and Bing. They have copyright infringement complaint forms that you can file online. Google is very quick about investigating and removing offending pages from their index. It usually takes a couple days the first time, subsequent times only a few hours.

You can do as some of those answering suggest, like rewrite your material...but you already did all that work once, what makes you believe that the offending website won't do it again. To those that think Google will punish the offending site for 'Duplicate Content' they don't really understand what is 'Duplicate Content'

I have given you a lot of information learned the hard way, so you don't have to. We have had multiple problems with Privacy Protect and are now focusing on including them in litigation under USA laws for conspiracy. A couple last items that you need to know. The FBI investigates complaints of Copyright Infringement and you SHOULD report it to them if you don't get satisfaction otherwise. The FBI will not investigate until it becomes clear there are numerous problems with the same companies, eg: Privacy Protect...then they will investigate and turn everything over to the DOJ.

btw...having your material on a 'bad neighborhood' site like the SEs talk about WILL hurt your sites ranking. We have proof with the porn site and the damage to the business reputation and sales.

You are the first. It mean that Google accept your contain in the first, or search engine crawl your contain very well. Duplicate contain is nothing, kept writing again again. contain is king

Steal it back off him. Scrape his site and republish it on your own. After all, if it worked for him...

You can send a DMCA notice to Google, but if the content theft reply with a counter notification (a simple online form) you have 10 days to prove that you have filed an action seeking a court order to restrain the counter-notifier's allegedly infringing activity. Otherwise Google will reinstate the material in question in their Serp.
