Hi, I have been woundering how google finds the keywords from your web page? You have a web page about cars then google will show ads related to cars! Lets just call this the adsense spider. -where does the spider find the keywords? -where does it start the search? -in the title, html, footer.....? -does it count how many times a keyword is writen on the site and pick them from popularity? My thoughts on the subject! -I think they search the whole page for the keywords. -I think they start in the upper left corner and work there way down going to the right! -I don't think they search the title! but I really don't have a clue -Not sure if they count the keywords! but you would think so! What are your thoughts on this subject?
If you want Google to match ads only to certain sections of content, then you can use "section targeting" The HTML tags to emphasize a page section take the following format: <!-- google_ad_section_start --> <!-- google_ad_section_end --> You can also designate sections you'd like to have ignored by adding a (weight=ignore) to the starting tag: <!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) -->
Thanks take2, does this work 100% ? Does the "spider" then only search the keyword/content between the lines?? do I but keywords or the content between the lines? <!-- google_ad_section_start --> car, motor, auto... <!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!-- google_ad_section_start --> This is the fastest car I have ever been into! I bought it from the auto shop.. <!-- google_ad_section_end -->
Section targeting is only a 'hint' to the AdSense bot - it will still factor in the whole page. Don't use it for stuffing keywords, because this won't work. AdSense looks at the URL, Title, Meta tags (description/keywords) as well as the body of the page. It doesn't matter what order it reads the page, though the text immediately underneath the advert will have a greater effect. Keywords that are bold, italic or links to other site may also have a higher weighting. Cryo.
They wouldn't want that info necessarily getting out...completely. After all, if it was made common knowledge it would be abused, I'm sure.
All of you missed one of the biggets factors. Anchor text coming in to the page. One funny story was a member here on DP who's member name was GEM. That automatically becomes part of the anchor text to what you define as your homepage. His site was a general directory and guess what all his ads were about all over the site, even on pages about cars and stuff... indeed, jewellery, rocks, gemstones etc. So he changed it to Sollicitors Mortgages
What are h1 tags??? Where is the anchor text located, how do I spot it in my website? Thanks for the help guys!!
Could you give me an example?? I really don´t have a clue what your talking about :/ Thanks for your time,
This is a sentence with a link -> yellow busses That link can now cause AdSense ads on http://www.yoursite.com/page1.html about yellow busses.
Thats a nice insite. I didnt realize adsense took into considerationt the links pointing to the page. But, i suppose it makes sense since their search results take that into consideration.
