Oh come on Malcolm, do you take us for fools? Of course it's broken! If you didn't feel like taking proper care of it you never should have bought it. The directory needs emergency TLC so please give it back AOL asap. How about we trade you a resource-zone forum in good working order for your broken down DMOZ? And, if you accept this offer in the next 20 minutes, we'll throw in a free set of ginsu knives. Act now, limited time offer!!!!! ginsu knives, oooh, stabby! @ popotalk, it's not dead, it's resting.
Well i bought it cause it was a discounted going out of business sale, and 2nd the price was a steal, plus it has a pretty PR. Now who the hells AOL? Is that one of those terrorist groups i keep hearing about? As for your trade....Resource zone hmmmm i like the knives offer idea as i could come after the thousands of cry baby (webmasters )<--- hahaha who cant get in fastest enough and who just cant sleep a wink if DMOZ wont allow them in or that will take more than a few hours to answer back! hmmmm its a tough deal but....nah sorry cant do it. thx malcolm
No one will notice when "Directory" is dropped from this page: http://www.google.com/intl/en/options/ They should do it already. The page is full. Time to cull the herd.
well i just got back from a dinosaur show..... interesting comments people have now since its down.... http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45362 lol thx malcolm
Perhaps we should apply the same kind of patience that we need with submissions? My big question of the day is... what happens if we all have our editor status expiring because we haven't logged in?
If they are sensible then they will suspend the script that does the automated account expiry and send a mass email to tell people it is back and to log on and register an edit before reinstating the script. But this is DMOZ so that if is a big if.
I'm pretty sure time stopped when the system crashed. If nothing else, they should be able to reset to pre Oct 20 editor list whenever the backup was made.
The DMOZ Editors wish for Christmas. Dear Santa, Please install a New and Mighty Server so that these jerks would not annoy our Most Favorite Hobby. Also please make it quick so we don't go Crazy. Sincerely Yours, Editors of DMOZ
They made a backup? You've forgotten, this is DMOZ, and backups are a risk management measure. Risk management is for silly people with nothing better to do with their time other than to worry about the sky falling in. Oops, the sky fell in. Given how easy and cheap getting a new server is, if there was a valid backup surely things would have been up and running again in 48 hours. This server fault thing is either total BS or there is a lot on incompetence going on in AOL data centres. Which suggests that an application and/or data issue might be the real problem and a backup might contain the same fault. I would imagine that AOL servers would have multiple mirrored hard disks so it wouldn't be necessary to go to a backup unless the server had caught fire and destroyed them all or a similar distaster had struck. The server fault thing is wearing thin, someone needs to think up a better reason... I personally think it lies in the fact that squirrels can't fit into the wheels vacated by the now deceased hamsters and squirrel wheels are a custom part made to order by an elderly Inuit gentleman who is out fishing and has forgotten to take his mobile (cell) phone with him. It makes more sense I think. Any other ideas?
I admit, I took the server so I can finally find out why was I removed but I accidentally let hamsters run away and now I can't get squirrels working.
