I need to get traffic this month, with $$$

So a website I work for has sold some big ad campaigns this month and needs to load up the site with traffic to satisfy the clients. I've been appointed the job of online marketing. I have a healthy budget to work with..

So far I've got my eggs in:
    - Google AdWords
    - Microsoft AdCenter
    - Mamma Media Solutions
    - Paid Directories (submitting to all the top ones)

I need some ideas on ways to pick up an extra thousand or two thousand unique hits per day.

The website is a local (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary) entertainment, dining, nightlife website with about 16,000 pages indexed in Google. 90% of the traffic comes from organic sources; primarily google.

If need be, I can ask the writers to publish certain articles to submit to digg or other news sites but I'm inexperienced with them and wouldn't know how to convert the article into mass traffic.

If you guys could give me a little direction and advice It'd be much appreciated.

You should try doing a Press Release too.

Your looking for Canadian traffic, or US traffic as well?

Preferred traffic would be Canadian but unfortunately for the time being I can't really be picky and take what I can get...

Since you're being pretty diverse (good thinking) I would Suggest TRYING MySpace... Something like AdderRobot would help out dramatically and it's pretty cheap too.

I would try BidVertiser.com as well since you're going with PPC.

    Just my two cents.

Try adbrite, it tells you how many hits you can expect from each site and you can target the type(s) of site(s) you advertise on better.

Buy banners on websites that manage their own advertising. I've had great results doing this.

You are missing adbrite and yahoo for PPC.

Also you can get quality articles written for cheap at sites like weirfire and from DP members like koolkid (I've worked with them so that's why I'm mentioning them).

Also you can try blogads but I think they are expensive to purchase.

Now if you only want hits and don't care for their quality you can buy popunder and autosurf traffic but that's like burning the money.

Performancing Partners a new blog ad network has some great buys on high traffic blogs. You just need to see if they have some that are a good fit. Just search by category:
    http://performancing.com/partners/advertisers/blogs

www.Stumbleupon.com can give lots of traffic at low cost but not sure how good the traffic is. I've heard it doesn't convert and isnt very sticky. I only tried one small campaign. Not sure about geo targeting.

I would suggest forums post daily in 5+ forums and see the traffic difference. Not spamming but help out the community with your comments.

Good advice to get started, but would that really drive 'thousands' unique users to a site?

I have about 3000 'friends' that I have never contacted, (no comments, no bulletin, nothing).
How many of them can I expect to visit my site from one bulletin?

The best way is to send out bulletins to MySpace members.

It's not exactly targetted but does perform well, depending on what you are promoting it can be very good. Much better than paying for banners etc....and it's instant traffic, you can pretty much turn the tap on and off whenever you want.
Check my sig and PM me if you are interested.

It would help to get you on your way to receiving thousands of visitors a day. If you would combined with other sources of traffic such organic search engine traffic, weekly article traffic, ppc traffic, word to mouth and a healthy mailing list you should be doing ok.

Thanks for the referral Anteros. :) We can indeed produce quality articles and we now have an article submission service as well if you're looking for backlinks from sites with related content.
