3-4 years ago I was heavily involved with developing websites, building a visitor base, and selling them for a nice profit. I was mainly into myspace layout sites. I'm now looking to get back into website management as a side job. I'm working full time at a job that gives me the extra time to manage a site during the day and I have plenty of time at night. Now that myspace is out, what type of website should I start/buy? What kind of sites are getting a lot of "free" traffic from google and social media? Im not a writer so I don't want a blog site and social media type start ups seem to be a flooded market. I am primarily interested in sites that use ads for profit, but I would consider other options. Other than that, I am open to new ideas for a site that might earn a little extra side cash.
You can start a community forums for a specific niche.. (like a DP for webmaster) and try to attract webusers to get them registered for active participation. Once your forum gets busy you can start with your advert campaign for generating extra revenue.
Though forums like this is a great way to earn revenue, they are not easy to get going. You have to depend on other people to be active in your community. Facebook apps is definitely an interesting thought though.
My friend actually makes $200-$300 for setting up a LinkedIn account and building a community of 50 people for the client. That's it. He posts the job offer up on eLance and people come to him to build a community. He then outsources the actual farming for members to a VA. It's smart stuff.
That doesn't mean that someone else can't make a similar site work though. Better management/business plan maybe?
well like they said earlier online shopping makes a lot of money but its basically useless if you are selling a product everyone sells and you cant be found on search engines
You need to find what people are searching for and provide them with it. There was an example a couple of years ago when a man noticed a large increase in the Searches for 'Chicken Coops' he then made a website selling Chicken Coops and made millions!
Visit flippa and see the kind of site that sells the most and for a high price. Note, just because a site was sold for thousands of dollar does not mean you have found goldmine, you will have to put on your thinking cap, find something that has being consistently rocking for a while.
thats the golden question though; finding a niche that is earning with low competition. good luck in your research.
You just have to trial and test them. Best way is go through them all and see what works best. Its fun learning and improving websites.
You could try setting up your own online store for doing up websites or something like that. As well as offering your services, put ads around the site.
