Texas congressman builds momentum with strong ground game as Newt Gingrich falters Texas Rep. Ron Paul is leading his GOP rivals in Iowa, according to the latest poll. The 12-term congressman, widely thought to have the most comprehensive and best ground game in the first-in-the-nation-caucus state, has steadily built support over the last few weeks and benefited from a slide in the popularity of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Gingrich's support has dropped from 27 percent to 14 percent over the last two weeks, according to a memo written by Tom Jensen, director of Public Policy Polling. PPP places Paul first in the latest survey, garnering 23 percent support, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 20 percent, and Gingrich with 14. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum are all tied at 10 percent support, according to the poll. The poll surveyed 597 likely Republican caucus-goers from December 16-18 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent. http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2011/12/19/ron-paul-takes-lead-in-iowa-caucus-poll
The good news for Ron Paul is that the other candidates are either perceived as more whacko, too far right, or too flip floppish. This will bode well for him in the face of a media blackout. The fact that there is a weak class of other Republicans allows people to really see what he's about.
New York Times predicting Ron Paul as the winner as well.. "Mr. Paul also leads our forecast. The model gives him a 44 percent chance of winning Iowa based on the current standing of the candidates and the historic uncertainty of polling-based forecasts. Mr. Romney has a 32 percent chance of winning, while Mr. Gingrich’s chances have crashed to 15 percent." http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/19/paul-moves-into-lead-in-iowa-forecast/
US presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry stumbled on Saturday in their White House quest by failing to qualify for Virginia's 2012 Republican primary, the state party reported. "After verification, [the party] has determined that Mr Gingrich did not submit the required 10,000 signatures and has not qualified for the VA primary," the Republican Party of Virginia said in a Twitter message. The rejection was a blow to Mr Gingrich, who has been leading the polls in Virginia. "For Gingrich it's a disaster," Larry Sabato, head of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, told the Times-Dispatch. Source
HaHaHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA What a moron. How can you be in politics this long, plan to run for President, and then not know the policy of each state's Primaries and their rules? I'm sure he has plenty of people on staff that are supposed to be handling this for him. Someone's surely headed to the Unemployment office today. We already knew Perry's not the brightest and can't remember the various National Departments of Government, the voting age, or the date of the election, but I figured Gingrich was a bit brighter. Oh this is rich. As stated above, just another reason Ron Paul has a good shot at the nomination. 2 not so bright candidates, one crazy candidate, a flip flopper, and a weak rest of the field will do that.
Perry sues to get on Virginia primary ballot Texas governor Rick Perry has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to get on Virginia's 2012 primary election ballot after failing to qualify by last week's deadline. The Perry lawsuit names members of the state's board of elections and the head of the state Republican party as defendants. The Republican Party also said former House speaker Newt Gingrich, a Virginia resident, failed to meet the ballot qualification requirement. Three other members of the Republican field trying to unseat Democratic president Barack Obama - former Utah governor Jon Huntsman, Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum - did not meet the deadline for submitting petitions. Democratic activists have been known to infiltrate Republican campaigns and commit fraud. I wonder if Dems signed up to get signatures for Gingrich and Perry's campaigns so they could shove them aside. Ron Paul scares both parties because he threatens their gravy train. Both parties like to talk about change but do nothing (example: Obama). Ron Paul will actually shake things up. He's actually running on Obama's original 2008 platform! Anyone calling themselves a Liberal that does not support Ron Paul is just a TOOL.
I would think that any reasonable person wants to stop wars. I want to stop wars. Why do you think wanting to stop wars is the sign of a "nutjob"? Why should we give foreign aid to countries that want to kill Americans?
He intends to accomplish that by removing any military presence and defense measure the US has in place to defend its liberty. He's been in Washington for over 30 years and has not accomplished dick. He's a fruit cake at best. His idea of foreign policy is to close the borders and pretend like no one else exists. I think if we look at his record over the last 30 years, which is predicated upon isolationism, it's fairly evident to me that having Paul as president would likely be worse than the current alternative.
Because it's surely better to give away the entire government and all of your money like Obama, flip flop so much you stand for absolutely nothing but pandering for every vote you can get like Romney, or go towards a religious system that changes the Constitution and teaches creationism in Biology like Perry. I'm not even getting into Bachman's craziness, we don't have time for that.
Defend from what? Terrorists? You are more likely to die from peanut allergy than a terrorist attack. I think he likes to call himself a non-interventionist.
We've spent well over 230+ years defending what we have and what we are. It's why we remain. Terrorism (modern day Jihad/Isamlic terrorism) ranks pretty low on the totem pole of time. I don't think many people fully realize just how many deployments we have around the world and why they exist. Paul is a fruitcake.
