    Finest way to attract visitors.I must say it is not an Seo new thing but it consider a generous way to deal with traffic.

    For now it is a new feature but its unknown how SEs will take them in future. For organic searchers it doesn't attract more. Its should be of natural look not like sponsored.

    There are a lot of things that can be used and we have called linkbait like,
    News hook
    jokes
    Precautions
    and if you click on any one of them it takes you to your site.
    Note:
    Hook should be attractive so that it can attract visitor to click and enter the site.

    I think you should refer wikipedia and other sites in SE. Many times you have come across such links like in "How to..". But the target link should have quality content (required content searcher searching for).

    From what I know, if you have a backlink from a website, but later get removed (like banned or what), it may have negative effect to your site SEO. If you have plenty of such backlink keep appearing then disappear, it can really hurt your site SEO.
