Some (usually linked to a business site) don't even allow comments, their blog will never be popular.
Blogging is a risky job if you don't know how to do it. I use my blog as a portfolio now, and it's a good reason to update it
These are obviously very good list. I want to add one thing that may be you are not interacting with your visitors. If they any comments then it is your responsibility to reply him back. That will encourage the visitor to come back your site once more.
agreed, reply to the commenter. They will come back and comment again and again, which creates content to your site.
This is a very good list, in my experience, blogs that are followed are those of regular posters, you have to post once a day at least and you have to interact with your readers, (ask them questions, opinions and so forth). We have very good blogs that are only updated once a week and they have almost no following, while blogs that update every day slowly but surely start getting a good following. Not sure about marketing and SEO stuff, most blog platforms/hosts take care of that for you. Remember that any search engines, (i.e. Google), will find you and list you if your content is good, they have been clever enough to go around all the SEO stuff for a long time now and are not fooled anymore. Good, consistent contents is 90% of what you need for a good blog. FFMG
In my opinion, people tend to visit your blog because it solves their problems or for fun. Nothing more, nothing less.
The same can be said for many sites, regardless if it is a blog or not. Problem solving and fun is not limited to blogs only. FFMG
