The algorithm uses technology that Google built last year in response to the greater speed at which people were publishing updates online. It is a Web indexing system it calls Caffeine, which crawls the Web more quickly, updating Google’s index of Web sites continuously instead of every couple of weeks. As Icecube_media said, nobody (aside from those who work on it for Google) knows exactly how Google's algorithm works. We just have bits and pieces that Google shares, trial and error, and common sense. Google serves people and therefore has its algorithm think like a person would when browsing the web, which can give some insight into how it works. As for writing good articles that are SEO friendly, the checklist I follow is: 1. Write something that is readable and that someone would want to read 2. Don't bombard the reader with keywords that mess up the "flow" of the article 3. Make use of headings, bold text, and italics when possible to draw attention to important things (use in moderation to help the reader find the info they want) 4. Have relevant content (don't jump all over) and have any links be relevant with appropriate anchor text 5. Keep keyword saturation between 1 - 5% (there are arguments on this with experts so test it out for yourself, remember 2) 6. Be unique and cite sources with a link if you are quoting something that already exists 7. Use good grammar and structure (Google knows when you misspell, have paragraphs that are to long, have run-on sentences, poor punctuation, etc)

But still people have guess of the components of google algorithm. which are - QUALITY CONTENT, Good language, more backlinks(from quality sites with quality content and traffic, not all!), SEO has lost is importance cuz of google panda Anyways, other basic stuffs like, error free pages, light weight pages, and load time do matter.
