Is $1 a click good for adsense? Is that the highest? I make more on webhosting ads...

I'm curious if $1 per click is a good rate.

What's the best you can get? (or is there a limit?) My site is a webhosting site, so I can get $100 webhosting commission off aff stuff, and easily would make closer to $4-5 a click because of that higher rate, so I'm curious what the adsense limit is, if I can ever make $5+ a click like my webhosting ads, or what the highest any of you have had, if it's consistent or not.

The best I ever had was $0.78 for a single click, but I think you can make much more.

There are some that are more than $20, but I don't know what they are. I saw that a bid for "Drug Abuse" was $18.

It depends on the bidders, if they're willing to pay that high then you will get that high :p

LOL i was just about to post this question. I actually received a 1 dollar click yesterday but they have been around 10-30 cents each. maybe 40 sometimes. I have tried everything. One ad on a page, high paying ads, ads that pay 15$ and only have 1 click per day, keeping my CTR high (33-50%). My thinking with the ctr was they would reward people with higher ctrs by feeding them with the higher clicks, the way adwords uses CTR as a factor.

Is affiliate marketing really the only way to make money?

Even if I had a high traffic site I wouldnt choose adsense if the payouts were 30cents to 40 cents. I would take my chances with affiliates.

Anyone else having any luck with this??

a dollar a click is good for adsense, in general it isn't about the maximum bid, but the average bid per click. I mean - if the bidding range for an adblock is from 2 dollars to 2 cents, on average you are probably only going to make say 30cents per click, even if you do get lucky every once in a while when a user clicks on the 2 dollar ad.
That said: the only thing to do is TEST on your specific website. It may be that you make less per click, but get more clicks, for instance.

1$ per click is good IMO very good. as I get $0.09 per click average for my last 800 clicks.(approx)

You may put aff. and adsense together to see how it performs.

My highest earning for a click is $1.63

Yeah, getting $1 once in a while is not uncommon. Now if you consitently average $1 and you consistently do 300+ clicks, that's killer.

Affiliate marketing and contextual advertising is two different paths. They may have similarities but affiliate marketing is much harder to earn money, but easier to start since you can just push PPC clicks into your site.

No that's crap for me. Seriously. The same 300 clicks that go to adsense and get $300 would get me atleast $1,200 with webhosting ads. $100 commission for webhosting.

That's why I want to know if anyone's ever gotten say $5 a click, or what their highests are. Let's say people bid $10 per click, do I get $8? $9? how much do I get of the share, and how much does google take.

$1 is noooooooo good. What are you talking about? It would take 200 clicks a day to make it anything worthwhile which means you'd have to have probably 10,000 visits a day.

For perhaps meaningless non commercial subjects $1 may be good, like a blog. But for commercial subjects with direct salable products I was thinking $4+

So anyways, let's say people bid $10 per click which might be likely for my webhosting site, then do I get $9? what's the rate google cuts? etc.

if you have a directly commercial site you're going to be better off with affiliate programs.

I've had eCPMs with affiliate programs in the 200$+ range... highest I've ever had with adsense was maybe 10$~

and that was back when adsense was decent. I'd kill for that on half of my sites now.

What you get here will only be speculation - your competitors in your niche are not likely to post here to say that they do get 10$ for a click, or no they only get on average 0.50$ for a click. So what I said before is really the only answer that makes any sense: test - or stick with what you've got.

My understanding is that Google takes 12% and you get the rest. :p

Well what about google's take in general?

Does google put a cap on your earnings at say no more than $5? or increase their cut at a certain rate? or is there a steady 20% cut? You get it.

Oh thanks. Answered my question right before I asked it again. :D

That's good to know. See I prefer google over my webhosting ads cuz I get the money in 30 days instead of 3 months. :D

So technically those companies could bid it up to $10 a click then I get $8.80... hmmm wish I could cut out the middleman...

edit: can anyone else verify the 12%? is it in the TOS?

Keep in mind that just because people are bidding $10 for a keyword, doesn't mean you'll get $10. Google keeps a good percentage of it. I'm not sure how much.

Also most advertisers who are paying a high amount per click are probably going to put their ads on Google search result pages and not on the "content network" where your websites are. When I advertise with Adwords, I'll bid a lot lower for the content network than for the search results. Many times I'll even turn off the ads for the content network if I'm dealing with ads that cost multiple dollars per click.

I assume most other advertisers do the same.

It really all depends on your content on the website - for instance, I have sites that average 2 cents a click. Alternatively, I have sites that average over $10 per click. Use tools like overture to judge which keywords pay the highest.
