Christopher Hitchens - Dead at 62

A loss for society as a whole I'd say. The man loved to argue, and was just so damned good at it. If you have the time, youtube is filled with debates between Hitchens and various others, one of the most memorable being Tony Blair(another respectable fellow). After reading the obituary today, I skimmed a few of his sparring matches with Jon Stewart, and came across this gem where Hitchens get's Stewart to make the case for bombing Iran. Rather humorous, considering that, on many topics, Hitchens could have been considered well left of center, one of the reasons Stewart had him on so often.

    Rest in Peace

His days of thinking anything at all are long gone, according to his beliefs.

It seems that if god was going to be merciful to him, he'd still be alive, no?

Whose reality? Yours? Mine? or his?

62 is young by any measure.

Here are some of his talks:

God is so merciful, isn't it the creator of everything including cancer and illnesses and birth defects?

    Whatever..

I fixed the typo for you. (BTW, the mechanism that causes NDE, and exactly what NDE is, have been known to science for a long time now. And it has nothing to do with an afterlife.)

You mean that a corpse can have beliefs? I doubt that.

Dead chicks don't believe in any god so they're trivially atheists (as are chairs).

@Angelic I know you're unhappy with the attitude of militant atheist but NEVER EVER disrespect someone . With the constant dirt trowing that we're subjected to we don't need to trow any ourselves . If you have a anger problem just walk it off . Capiche ?

Then so are poison , viruses , bacterias , heroin , cocaine , waste and so on .

Maybe that's a problem for those who redefine atheism as "active belief that there is no god", but for those of us who understand English, and know that atheist means "one without belief in any god", it's not a problem. Poison, viruses, bacteria (that's a plural so it doesn't take an "s"), heroin, cocaine and waste have no belief in gods (or in anything), so they're atheistic (not having a belief in gods).

Nice clip Rebecca. Here is something that most will probably find too long to watch, but well worth it if you have the time (clip 2 of 8). Two highly educated individuals, one a man of faith, the other an atheist, engaged in a civil and courteous debate. If only all P&R discussions were so civil.

Thanks Obamanation. That was a civil debate. Nice. When I get time, I would like to watch all 8. They took a religious poll at the beginning, to see if anyone changed their mind over the course of the debate. It looks like:

    Found the results here.

And how do you KNOW that?

OT: I'm gonna miss Hitchens, he certainly was a good debater.
