    Atom is the netbook class processor from Intel.. Lightweight, low TDP, however not the fastest or mightiest I may add.

    Core i7-3960X - Extreme Edition is currently the fastest and the most powerful Desktop processor. It is based on Sandy Bridge-E micro-architecture. The processor is priced at $1000 USD (About 56,000 INR, in Delhi).

    For general purpose, core i7 2700K is the best processor you can buy. Priced at humble $330 USD (18,000 INR, in Delhi), this 4 cores with 8MB L3 cache processor got everything that you will ever need in day to day application.

    @Webby,

    Thanks for sharing about Corei7-3960 X and core i7 2700k. These are very expensive from the Indian market point of view. I like to purchase a PC for home purpose where i can do some entertainment and Internet Access....

    Correct, these are expensive hardware. If you elaborate more on your exact needs and total budget, it will be easier for us to give you an idea..

    Any core i processor does not work with 945 chipset, you will need a new motherboard.

    Gaming isn't "small stuffs". In fact, some games require more processing power than many large business apps.

    If we knew your budget we could give you a more sensible answer. Then you'd have to compare what you can afford with what you want to do with it, and decide whether what you get for what you can afford would be worth spending the money.

    I have core i7 2600K, but I'm a hardcore gamer..

    I gather from your posts that you are a casual gamer, your main purpose is probably work/home work and some gaming. I guess you can go for core i3 from intel side. If gaming is not at all important and you want a cheap multi threaded environment, you may consider AMD Athlon II x3 or x4 processors.

    Now you want a laptop or desktop?

    Look for core i3 laptops, there should be some good laptops for around 30k.. HP probook series has some good models and so is Accer. I suggest you go to nearest shops and see the ranges available in your budget, then get a spec/price for the models you like and post them here. Then we can suggest you which one would be better and why.
