Jimmy Wales the founder of Wikipedia one of the top websites on the net is considering a site-wide “blank out†of all Wikipedia’s pages! He may do this in protest of the new SOPA who want to poilce the web’s content. Do you think this is a litle extreme? I think it shows the guy has guts and is prepared to lay it on the line, good on him! Wikipedia Considering Blackout to Oppose SOPA
Yeah i'm really glad to see he's willing to stand up against this, I say great job i'm so glad some big companies and all have started to speak out against it
I also support his stand. And I could not understand why white house is bringing this weird law called SOPA.
That's one the best thing to do actually. Not extreme. Directly on the face! haha I don't hate the people in US neither I hate the country. But its beginning to frustrate me as they try to bring more and more laws which eill make our life almost impossible. banning of websites with illegal content. I seriously don't care about the warez sites. But sites like wikileaks/anon news should stay online and we have all our god damn rights to read and view it!
Pure stupidity , it would be much simpler to have ICANN deregister their website , in 48 hours they would be dead . There is no need for a super punishing law like this one . Also Wikipedia won't do it , they're just asking for money now .
Well, at least someone is doing something. Imagine the panic if Google essentially shut themselves down for 24 hours in protest.
It's great that someone with the power, and money like him is willing to do this. The SOPA bill is incredibly anti-democratic and should not be supported by anyone who truly believes in democracy. Yeah sure, people are losing money due to piracy. Let capitalism take command of that issue by discovering new ways to prevent piracy instead of having the government revoke freedoms.
There are in fact several other major internet players also considering drastic action in protest of SOPA: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/...ar-option-to-stop-SOPA?detail=hide&via=blog_1
Correction to the topic: It would have been a blackout for all en.wikipedia.org pages, not effecting any other countries and it is what the Italian Wikipedia pages did to oppose some laws that they were passing.
