Why religion?

Why do we follow particular religions? How about if we believe in God, do good things but remain unrelated to any religion.

Just gang mentality. It's a feeling of belonging. Humans are highly social creatures and don't do well with feeling alone or being alone (typically).

Well Pakistan boy, if I were you I wouldn't go on too much into that path. States with islam laws are not very good for free minds, better stick with the herd.

I don't know if they monitor internet, but I wouldn't feel safe at all in an islamic country expressing opinions which are not in the norm.

    No I mean gang. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gang

Gang isn't just associated with crime.

A religion takes all the forms of a gang, most have a gang leader, a set of rules to follow (religious text) and a purpose although it's normally personal to the individual. I mean if I was part of the Mafia, the Mafia work under the same philosophy. They have a set of rules, people have a fear of not following the rules, and they have a purpose (making money and gaining power).

99.99% of theists are the religion they were raised in, that's why. If there were any "true" religion, everyone would be that religion. Everyone is subject to reality - you don't see many sane people denying gravity, do you?
