Great information! Thanks for posting. I have a question with the Squidoo links. Do we need to start a lens and keep one going or will we still have the same beneficial effect with just one link/post coming from Squidoo?

    Thanks, again.

Think of Squidoo like Article Directories. The more posts the the more backlinks you will get from it. I would recommend to post several on Squidoo so that you will gain some direct traffic traffic from Squidoo on top of backlinks.

OK. Thanks, Mingjong. It sounds like the multiple links from one site is merely to provide additional traffic opportunities, but there may not be any additional PR gain from it. Is that a correct assumption?

Hey cook920, I will say so. Eventually, having multiple same links pointing back to your site on 1 lens will not be useful in terms SEO. However, what I usually do is to point to different sites, such as money sites, other web2.0 sites like ezinearticles, hubpages, etc...So, you can funnel your link juice through other channels and then back to your site.

The other point to consider is to build up traffic for your lens so that you can funnel your traffic to your money site. It really depends on how you want to use Squidoo.

They are great stuff to harness because of their nature. Most importantly, they are FREE!!!

Welcome shmerns! Yes, these are proven powerful backlinking strategies :)

Me too! Unlimited free .gov and .edu backlinks! HooRah!

    No worries mate!

The intent of backlinking is to rank your site. We are not trying to rank those article sites, web2.0, etc.. After Panda, some of article directories might not rank well in Google and hence people losing traffic from them (direct traffic). However, they still have backlinks from those article directories.

Great point! In terms of link juice, as most of the links are nofollow, so it won't pass on the benefit to your site. However, those video sharing sites are good for direct traffic if you do it the right way. Also, a mixture of nofollow and dofollow looks natural in the eye of Google.

This is a great list. I especially like #6. That's something most people overlook.

Also, be careful about forum profiles as Google has recently begun to devalue those slightly. They will still work in small quantities.

No worries mate! This is just some of the popular and free backlinking techniques yet still work perfectly for SEO.

Thanks ChrisMonty! I found that those stat and whois sites really help to index the new sites, usually in hours. Really handy :) My usual practice is to have a mixture of backlinks so that it looks natural to Google.

Not all of those give you dofollow backlinks, but may increase traffic otherwise.

By placing a link into your profile, perhaps? But let me guess, it's not an option there.
