Too Funny - United States Asking Iran To Give The Captured Drone Back

Discussion in 'Politics & Religion' started by Nima, Dec 12, 2011.

So an American drone was flying inside Iran spying on Iran's nuclear and military facilities. Iran's military hacked the drone and forced it to land inside Iran. At first U.S. denied it. Then Iran said "ok, I tell you what, we'll put it on display. How are you going to deny it now".

Then, Obama turned around and said, in that case.... and I paraphrase .... "Can you please give us our drone back. We're not offering anything in return. Just give it back as a good gesture since the only thing we want is diplomacy. Don't get tangled up on why we sent the drone there. Sure, it could be used for spying but you don't know that for sure. Maybe that wasn't our intention. Maybe we wanted you to hack it and put it on display. THEN, we could ask you to give it back to us voluntarily which would show your good gesture in the world and that you can be trusted"...

As much as I despise the Iranian regime, I can see their faces laughing their asses off right now.

Apparently, the drone was flying over Western Afghanistan when Iran attacked it. Its bad enough they attacked it, but now they parade their stolen goods on TV like the American hikers they kidnapped from Iraq. Obama may tolerate this crap, but I guarantee Gingrich won't put up with it.

HAHAHA. You're just as much of a joke as Obama..... The drone was flying over western Afghanistan and Iran attacked it.... lol. sure! It was 150 miles into Iran's borders just by accident.

Where the thieving, lying, Iranian cyber attackers flew the stolen drone after they attacked it is not my concern. The fact they attacked it in the first place is.

You are an interesting fellow. Love the U.S. but you march with the losers in the Anti-Capitalist protests. Hate the Iranian regime, but are willing to buy their stories so long as they are against the U.S.. Iran has a long history of creating unrest in neighboring countries, including Iraq, Israel, and Afghanistan. Not exactly like Iran has the best credibility here.

I'd say at this point, your credibility is as questionable as Ahmadinejads.

lol, I dont know what to tell you. I admit I can't resist but to call you out on being the uneducated, unknowledgeable, one sided that you are.

Your own Dick Cheney admits the drone was in Iran for spying but you flat out deny it because obviously you know more than former vice president. Or maybe because you can't stand not to ever have a bogus respond or the fact you need to reply to every thread without a single hair of knowledge about the topic. but then again that requires you to do research - something you're not used to

And your choice of president is a two face, lying, cheating, symbol of government corruption, Gingrich, instead of a consistent law abiding constitution following choice like Ron Paul.

It's people like you both here in America and Iran that are the problem. People who think they should always take one side regardless of the facts.

Coming from you that's a compliment. I don't look for a single shred of approval of my credibility from you.

The US goofed. Drone command and control systems were being hacked back in 2008 in Iraq. It's obvious that the insurgents did not possess the technical know-how to accomplish that so it must have been a proxy power (China, Russia, Iran). With that said, the US still went ahead to put one of its most treasured spying tools over the same general enemy's territory without upgrading those same command and control systems.....

True, the RQ-170 has software that immediately encrypts all data should it fall into enemy hands but here is the damage assessment:
    1. China will want access to the drone in exchange for trade favors with Iran
    2. Russia will want access to the drone in exchange for the S-300 missile shield.
    3. The data inside the drone could tip Iran on which sites the US and Israel will target
    4. How did the Iranians detect a stealth drone? There is deep Chinese-Russia involvement.....

Very true. It also shows that a war with Iran, whether because of themselves or with Chinese and Russian help) might not be as quick and easy as it is being sold as. I don't think Obama is going to go to a war with Iran though. Honestly I'm not sure if Obama would even fully back Israel if Israel attacked Iran by itself.

You nailed it with the S300 missiles also.

SO what has Iran got here:

Software that is capable of taking control of drones.
Software that manages the drones, including the failsafe backup system.
    Very advanced military hardware.

Maybe countries that have actually been nice to Iran instead of threatening, sanctioning, accusing will find benefits in having access to these things. Iran might be on a winner here. A good little earner and a deterrent to future overflies by drone aircraft.

    Or,

These countries could actually attempt to invent stuff on their own. It would probably be better than waiting and hoping for a crumb to fall on the floor.

Iran did - it invented the software that enabled it to confiscate a drone that was intruding on their sovereignty.

They may make use of the drone's abilities or they may say "Oh you guys - tch, tch, you are always so nice to us - here have it back."

Wait a minute, Iran hacked the drone and forced it to land in Iran?

Aint Drone command links supposed to use a massive encrypted system to avoid things like that from happening, making them virtually unhackable?
If Iran can break the encryption and hack into a drone's system and if I'm not a fanatic Iran supporter, I would not be laughing my ass off, I would be scared, very very scared..

What I think about it? I call it bullshit.. Unless Iran got some alien technology that can decipher 256 KB encryption in seconds, no way in hell they can hack into Drone's command link. And if they do, run for your dear life, nothing is safe, not your Credit cards, not your websites, not your bank accounts, not even your defense network. It's Die Hard 4 for you!!

Drone could have been malfunctioned or may be shot down, the 'thing' on display could be a fake replica.
With my 7 year experience in cryptography, I'm not buying the 'we hacked the drone and took control so we are uber cool' story.

Probably not a fake replica - Obama asked for it back.
Probably not shot down - it is intact.
Probably not malfunction - supposed to have a failsafe system that guides it back to its base.

    The fog of war.

A whole story from Iran makes it highly unbelievable.. I'll try to elaborate..

    1. Every military aircraft got massively encrypted comm. links. Not just UAVs but even manned vehicles so that your enemy can not just hack your comm link to eavesdrop your communication with base and instruct you to bomb the shit out of friendlies.

    2. Even the fastest super computer in the world will take years to decipher just the encryption.

    3. Even once you decipher the the code, you got to have the exact control unit to be able to take control of the drone. It's not like you issue commands from any computer and drone will accept it. I don't think I need to tell you that the control unit, OS/Avionics and comm frequency are highly classified.

    4. If Iran actually hacked the drone, the US wouldn't be just sitting on it's ass asking casually to return the drone. First of all, US would have completely denied any such happening, second there would have been a panic, a panic that you can't hide, in the ranks. There are only two ways anyone can decipher the comm. link
    a) They were given the decryption key
    b) They have some alien technology unknown to human kind
Both situations are alarming. And it puts the entire defense network, not only of the US but all of it's allies, including Australia in grave danger.

    5. If Iran actually hacked the drone, it would never had said so, knowing very well that it will alarm the enemy of their capabilities.

The whole hacking claim is the cheap trick from Iran to show themselves as uber badass cyber gods counting on the fact that people who have 0 cryptography knowledge, people who learn about cryptography and hacking from Hollywood movies, will instantly buy the story.

I have no doubt that Iran has the drone, but it was not hacked and was probably malfunctioned, blew it's cover and shot down. The thing that you see on display is just a replica, while Russian, Chinese, Iranian and who knows what other scientists are dissecting the actual pieces of drone trying to figure out the technology behind the wonder.

The facts are out there. You can give all sort of explanations but the drone is there, intact (not shut down), and ready to be sold to Chinese and Russians.

It's funny how easy it is for all of you to forget the fact that United States broke international laws and was spying on Iran over its own borders when the drone was taken down. Yet you allow yourself to condemn Iran for any international law that it breaks or not but western countries get a free pass on whatever law they want to break.

I fight the regime over there every day and I am personally glad that Iran has technology to take down a drone; it will be one more reason to keep Israel and United States at the doorsteps and makes them think twice before attacking Iran and killing thousands of innocent people (something they have no regard for - not that Iranian government does either).

All of that said, it's pathetic for Obama to ask for the drone back (as supposedly a good gesture by Iran?)

Maybe they should package it with a nuclear bomb and send it back to its rightful owner?

Crashes... not hacked... Malfunctioned and crashed..

That might be happened to the drone in Iran as well, drone malfunctioned and crashed or shot down..

But only an idiot will buy the "we hacked it, took control and landed it" story.. Not possible.

Oh well, if we can't give credit to Iran for inventing hacking software then we have to give them credit for creating a clone of the drone in such short order. A crashed or shot down aircraft usually ends up in little bits and pieces. Unless it was a controlled crash, but if it was a controlled crash why did it end up so deep inside Iran I wonder. US programmers put in the wrong address perhaps.

It's not a question of hacking software my man, if you had elementary knowledge of cryptography, and by elementary I mean if you had read a 2 page article about cryptography, you wouldn't have said that.
It's the question of computational power, a computer powerful enough to determine the nature of cipher and decipher the codes in a time frame of few hours.

This kind of computational power does not exist to break anything over 256 bit encryption. A 256 bit encryption or over is unbreakable in terms of computational power.

Iran could have the best hackers of the world and the most badass software, they do not have enough hardware to run that software and accomplish the job they are claiming to have done.. Because if they were able to create such hardware, and trust me on this, they would have fucked the whole world three time over by now...

And let's say for the sake of argument that they indeed hacked into a military drone and took the control, it only says two things and none of them is about Iran.
    1) US military got a mole in a very high position with undetected access to all sort of classified data.
    2) In the last couple of years, the people responsible for defense of United States has their brains taken out and replaced with a pile of horseshit.

Clone of a drone? I doubt it anywhere near being a clone, Styrofoam model? may be...

That maybe very well true because United States government (that has the bad ass hardware and software) has already fucked the whole world three times over. Its time the wars and killings stop. Its time all that tax money is spent where it benefits the people not only those hungry for wealth and power.
