Turned a general directory to niche accidentally? One of my least important UK web directory which i tend to forget event exist has been ticking along for many many years as a general directory, free mainly with a premium. I never bother to approve the free until I get a premium listing request which tends to happen once every months. Just over a year ago I got offers a good sub to list a bingo site on the homepage I accepted the offer. A few months later, competition to the bingo site I just listed approached me asking to be listing, I agree (each listing is paying about 3 times what the directory makes a year, and then a 3rd listing request a few days ago. Now sitting back and looking at the homepage of the directory, it looks more like a bingo directory than a general UK directory, now I am thinking I have accidentally changed the directory from general directory to a niche directory, what do you think? Have I turned it to a niche bingo gambling directory or does it still quality to be called a general directory? Has anyone ever accidental positioned their directory where they did not mean to before?
Thanks for your inpute but why should I change it? are you going to compensate me for the revenue I will be losing from removing the very lucrative paid adverts?
Why not make ten front page listing spots and add to your terms of service that no more than three can come from the same industry? That way you can keep the three bingo sites you have and hopefully keep from looking like a gambling directory. It's such a challenge for gambling-related sites to find links that I recall someone here mentioning that as a niche they can be quite profitable. But, it does limit the places where you can advertise the directory and it eliminates using Adsense.
You are right about gambling sites finding it difficult to advertises but yes, its a very profitable niche.
It does not look like a bingo directory. It looks like a bingo directory with a few paid links that happen to be to bingo sites. I'd not read too much into it. I think that you'll get penalized by Google long before anyone mistakes your directory for a niche' bingo site.
