Hey, I saw quite a few threads which were discussing effective ways to get backlinks for your site and which method of link building works. I replied to a few threads and decided to make a small guide on this matter. First of all, I suggest you read my Guide on the Good sources of backlinks which I wrote a while back. What kind of backlinks do the best websites have? The fact is G00gle has moved on. You need to move on as well. G00gle understands that there are automated tools that make building backlinks childs play. What works today is 1.good quality and 2.diverse backlinks Let us try to analyze how a genuinely good website ranks at the top and try to replicate it. If you look at any authority website, what kind of backlinking profile do they have? If you want to define their backlink profile in one word it would be "diverse." They will have some from article submissions, blogs, web 2.0s, social bookmarks, forum posts, possible sitewide paid links, natural links, social media etc etc. What exactly do I mean by diverse? This diversity is the reason for their success. The diverse backlinking structure makes it appear as a website which gains its backlinks naturally. If you are going to bang your website with XXXX amount of blog comments and XXX article submissions, It's not going to work. Not just the sources, but the anchor text as well. A natural website will have various anchor texts apart from the main keyword such as LSI keywords, related keywords, just the URL, anchor texts like click here, check it out. You need to replicate this. Let's talk about link velocity Like I have stressed earlier, search engines have developed effective systems that raise red flags whenever it feels a website is attempting to manipulate its rankings. Hence, if you haven't been building backlinks to your website since quite a bit of time, and run a big campaign for 10 days and then stop again, it will raise red flags. Hence, you would want to maintain a constant amount of backlinks rather periods of high amount and complete stoppage. So, what does an effective link building campaign looks like? Let me introduce you guys to the concept of MULTI-Tiered Backlinking Let's look at a more complex backlink profile As you can see, people have developed complex multiered backlinking profile to maximise their chances of ranking at the top. Great effort to write that post and good link building strategies too. But the problem many webmasters don't address is how not to depend only on one search engine. My advice is target all other search engines, know how they work, how to get indexed so that one can have good sleep even if Google makes a major algorithm update or panda update.
