Do I need more pages to rank better?

I have made a lot of optimization on my site, created back link submited articles, etc. However, I don't rank as good as I would like.

I've noticed that other competitors have a lot of pages indexed in google.

Do I have to create more pages on my site to rank better?

You could. This is to reinforce your existing contents and develop sort of niche site devoted to your target keywords.

but is it really an advantage?
let say to competitors have around the same number of pages and backlinks.

if one of them would add more pages (lets say articles), will rank better than the competitor that doesn't add pages?

In a way yes, telling from experience.

Of course it won't be the case all the time. Quality of content and relevance to the search phrase will still be above that one.

Google don't seem to give an automatic competitive advantage to sites with large numbers of pages. Though the more pages you have, the better you can develop your internal link structure which will help. Also more indexed pages mean more content and more traffic from search engines.

Yes it is important to have more pages with relavent content indexed. My experience shows that it pay a lot . It is logical that google will place website having more relavent content above the other webiste ( having same other parameters).

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned the fact that content is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT !!

everybody is always talking about the IBL's, and sure they are important, but so is content !

make sure you have at least 500 words on each page or google will not take you serious !

remember, google is not just a robot you can try to fool, it's a company controlled by the smartest people on the net !

they want quality ... make quality !

forget about all the so called smart tricks, just make a quality website and it will work !

Whether PageRank counts in search engine results is vociferously disputed on this forum. For those who believe that PageRank does factor into SERPs (I believe that), then additional pages do matter, if you use them wisely in the internal linking strategy for your website. Here's an illustration —

    • Assuming that your site, like most, is trying to feature its home page more than the other pages, be sure to link from every new page to your home page. And in that link from the new page to the home page, use well-chosen "anchor text" that will reinforce the keywords you want the home page to be searched for in the search engines.

    • These new pages will be continually passing very small amounts of PageRank back to the home page as Google's PageRank formula crunches the calculations again and again.

    • The result? If PageRank does count in search engine results (a fact that not all agree on), then the small boost in PageRank passed to the home page from these new pages will, to that degree, improve the search results for the home page.

Internal link structure doesn't just help PR, it adds additional links from relevant pages using your choice of anchor text

    MattUK is correct IMHO.

Adding pages help in that is gives you the opportunity to not only add incremental PR, but also to get additiional IBLs with relevant anchor text directly to the home page, which is typically one that you want to get well ranked.

    Best;

You might have a slight advantage of having more pages as you can have a good internal navigation structure for your website.

But you should also look into the quality aspect of you content, there is not point having lot of page with good navigation system, but without good content.

Not exactly. The pages on PR5-7 sites which have lots of pages in google is true because they are big sites.

Take DP for an example. There are so many threads that yes its going to be indexed A LOT!

If you want your site to be indexed a lot, with many many pages. Then of course you will need pages.

If you have a 20 paged site alltogether, you may get 10 pages indexed.

If you have a 500 paged site you can get about 200 pages indexed.

If you have a 15,000 pages site you can get thousands of pages indexed with some good SEO.

The more pages with decent content you have, the more long-tail searches you will attract. At least this has been my experience.

Of course, adding pages should be understood as adding content. And with that it means quality content that relate to the original page, providing appropriate internal linking between these pages.
