    1. Keep building links, even if you see #1 rank, keep building for some time
    2. Build links to your backlinks too

Still work on those white hat SEO strategies. Avoid spamming when leaving comments and submitting to unrelated directory listings. You should have quality post and comments not just like "nice post", "great idea" because these are common ones. Leaving a full and comprehensive comments generates quality backlinks.

To find the places from which you can get quality backlinks. A valuable assistant in this process is the Backlink Builder tool. When you enter the keywords of your choice, the Backlink Builder tool gives you a list of sites where you can post an article, message, posting, or simply a backlink to your site. After you have the list of potential backlink partners, it is up to you to visit each of the sites and post your content with the backlink to your site in it.

Most article sites and blogging sites have a "WYSIWG" editor ("W"hat "Y"ou "S"ee "I"s "W"hat "Y"ou "G"et), but that site will typically have another option, HTML. Write your article before hand in notepad or a similar text editor. (Not in Word, don't ask why right now, just trust me.)
When you write your article use simple HTML tags for your Paragraph and bold some words for a better visual effect. Click on the image to the left for an example of how to do this. The top part shows you the code, the bottom part will show you how it will appear after you paste it in your articles HTML editor and then post it online.

use alexa.com. find the top sites or top sites by category, most of those will be pr 7 or higher and start from that list for a start, it should be enough.

Do-follow blog link is more powerful for getting good page rank on search engine. Make sure you link are alive on online. And another thing is that when you make any post on any blog then you should make relative comments. Other wise that will be spammed.

There are a few good tips here already... If your site JUST now reached the first position it's totally normal that it goes from 1 to 5 to page 2 and back for some time... It's the called 'google dance' and perfectly OK... Keep on building some strong and diverse links, create great content regulary... Definitely make a mix of do follow AND nofollow links to make it look more natural and also a no follow link could be a massive traffic source on the right site... Get some .edu and .gov links under your belt and mix high and low PR links too... Have great content on your site and also put up some video's and multi media stuff that engages people to stay on your site longer to improve your bounce rate (shows google how long people stay on your site and if they click your links or if the hit and leave) which is super important for long-term rankings nowadays, since the first farmer update (panda february).... you can also guest blog and social media, bookmarking and definitely video is something everyone must consider for SEO today...

Try a high pagerank blog network. There is plenty out there at the moment. You should also try guest posting on relevant blogs as some blog owners dont have the time to update their blogs so you can help them and they can help you by allowing you to add your links within the content you post.

I think you might be experiencing a Google Dance, most have found that if your site drops like that, after previously ranking high, just scaling up what you were doing would yield some good results

Try making some social profiles and put your site link there. you can also build up on these social profiles to make them every better backlinks.
Also, make or hire someone for a press release and submit it yourself to high PR and free press release sites.
