Hey I submitted my site almost 6 months ago now and have not been included in their directory.

The site in question is Calgary web design firm that I own.

    Any Thooughts?

    Hi,

The times vary, six months could be a long time though, it may be worth re-submitting, but I heard that a re-submission means you're back to the bottom of the waiting list again.
I've managed to get three sites listed in DMOZ, I just submitted another today, so let's see how long that takes !

    Good Luck.

Don't thank him, his (her?) advice was certainly NOT sound. The guidelines say it takes 'up to two weeks or more' meaning that it could be added moments after it's submitted or years. The guidelines also say that you should submit only ONCE and to the single best category.

Not all submissions are added, most because they don't conform to the guidelines, some just because no one cares enough to bother with them... in the end it's a crap shoot, and all ya can do is simply SUBMIT & FORGET. Now that you've done that, move on to promoting your site by better & bigger means...

and then what... two years to be approved after the review?

Your sources seem rather off kilter, mind sharing them?

It really just depends on the category. Some of mine are approved within days while others take months (and worse yet most still are never approved despite the fact that they conform to every rule they have).

I wish dmoz had a paid submission program so people who develop quality sites could pay to be at the front of the line. Oh well...

I agree, it all depends of DMOZ's editor, how much time it takes to get a submission approved but I think about 99% of times the submissions don't get approved at least it happened with me in my past experience.

Three months later after submission, you can email to their's editor to enquire further into your question..

That's a new one on me.

We discourage editors from replying to emails from anxious website promoters because any ensuing conversation ends badly far too often. Verbal abuse, spam bombs, threats of violence and even physical stalking are not unknown. All of these tend to demotiivate an editor and are best avoided.

"Three months later" - "anxious website promoters".

It's the internet, not the TP line in 1980s Russia.

Thanks for all these great replies. I think the best advice is just submit and forget. I just became a premium member at DP and I think this will show better results then having to sweat over DMOZ.

Thanks again to everyone for their input.

    That's all you can do.
Bitching about it, as many others do on a regular basis here does nothing to further the process along.

Normally it doesn't take that long for a site to get indexed in DMOZ. The question you should be asking yourself is that has your site gotten submitted to the directory at all. The thing is that DMOZ is very suggestive in accepting sites and if your site is not up to the task then chances are it hasn't gotten submitted at all. This is one of the few sites to remain at the top of Google's like it sites even after the Panda update.

Most of the folks in this forum have submitted their sites themselves... so that is generally not an issue here.

As for DMOZ being one of the few sites to remain on top of googles likes, then, erm, that must be why they stopped suggesting to people to submit their sites there and why they also have canned their own DMOZ clone.

I think you have got some things screwed up here. Do you really mean it does not take long to get indexed by Google.

DMOZ lists sites, it does it using volunteers who can choose to edit where they wish, given editing constraints given to them by DMOZ, and they can choose which resource to use to build categories. They may if they wish use the submissions (suggestions) pool as their data. The suggestions pool is made up of sites offered by the public or by owners for consideration for listing. That process can take from a few days to a few years. If a site is suggested it awaits that review, so what you are on about with sites being indexed and saying it does not take long is a nonsense and to say something about has it been submitted is even more hog wash, when if someone suggests a site to DMOZ it is suggested, it is submitted and it stays in that pool until reviewed by an editor and if it meets DMOZ guidelines it will be listed, if not it will be rejected.

Please stop confusing people with this rubbish.
