Personally I would still try to get into DMOZ. Since it takes only a couple of minutes, I don't see why not. It is definitely better than a lot of other link building ideas when you measure it up to the effort required. I've had decent results for smaller sites after being included, exactly why that is I couldn't say with confidence. I notice though that a lot of sites scrape the DMOZ listings and so you get a lot of links. (Perhaps not valued by Google though.. maybe just the one high PR link, who knows) But in any event, here's what I would do:

    1. Take 5 minutes to read their submission rules closely
    2. Make sure you follow them (don't submit MFA sites, no under construction sites etc) - then submit.
    3. Wait
    4. Just maybe: boldness is rewarded.

Especially read the one that says
    http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/add.html

If the op reads around or you do you will see that DMOZ editors regularly say that it can take from a few days to a few years for a review for a possible listing and resubmitting may disadvantages the site and carries absolutely no advantages because it simply overwrites the datestamp for the old one. Worse case scenario the site can be banned as spam.

I have submitted 3 websites to dmoz.

2 of them were real businesses with addresses and listings took a matter of weeks. As for the 3rd website, this was just a blog which never got listed.

Best thing to do is to leave it, wait for a few months. DMOZ can take time because real people evaluate if the sites submitted meet their demands. Meanwhile, you can submit to other quality directories like yahoo.com, business.com...

The easiest way to get listed in DMOZ is to buy a listing which costs between 50-100 dollars in freelance sites but if you ask me, it is well over priced.

    100% complete and total fabrication...

the EASIEST way to get a listing is to do NOTHING at all, many editors do not use the unreviewed queue, and many many more do not bother with 3rd party listing sites like script lance where you can seemingly buy a listing... many of those editors that do not bother with those two things often go out on their own time & find worthy sites to list, and LIST THEM FOR FREE!

Why go through the effort for something that can potentially get you banned from ever being listed when you can just do nothing and get the same effect!

    That's not all you need.
I've got a number of genuine websites that they just don't care about.
DMOZ is nothing but a good old boy's club. You've got to know someone to get in. It's the perfect example of how NOT to run a directory.
