Hello, I'm a complete newbie, bought a website from someone else last week, and it's not doing anything at all, but while figuring out how this all works, I decided to set up another website last week. It's pretty simple, 5 pages, took me an afternoon. I think I did a good job with all the on-page SEO things that Google SEO guidebook tells us to do, including submitting the sitemap, but from what I can tell, all of that is pretty basic stuff. But that's all I did. No purchased traffic, no backlinks, no professional SEO services, no +1, no YouTube, no Facebook, etc. So when I did a 3-word search in Google, my website ended up on page 1 today. I'm happy about this of course, but I didn't think it would be this quick or easy. Is it just plain luck of my keywords? I'm mystified by all of this. All explanations and theories welcome! Because I'd love to be able to do this over and over again...Thank you.
What were the keywords you were targeting? Maybe they are low competition keywords which would make it easier for you to rank high quickly. I'm a newbie too, I can't seem to rank for any good keywords. I've been trying to rank for "web design" to no avail. I think there's just too much competition there.
That sounds about right. A site that targets "Mr Apples New York Pumpkin Pie" would definitely rank number 1!
Google tends to give new websites ranking boost which goes away pretty fast. Your results are great but I wouldn't hold your breath
it happens dude but lets see how much time do you survive another thing is that your website already have a good SEO done because you told us that you have bought it from someone
This happens to new sites. You will see your pages rank on the first page today, gone tomorrow, then back the next day. Your page rank will fluctuate for the 6 months or so,until you have built backlinks and added a few more content to your site as well as get traffic to it. This is normal and will soon stabilize once Google determines your relevance to the keywords you're targeting as well as the quality of the backlinks to your site. Hope that helps. Have a good day!
Makesure your not logged into google when your searching as this will tailor your results to you. This is also a common occurance for some sites ive setup in the past, and im afraid to say most of them drop again in a couple of weeks. It all depends on what keywords your targetting really. Rankings fluctuate, it happens. I'm guessing you have a keyword rich domain and they're the keywords you're using to search.
