I am starting a new MFA site.
Is .com a better option than .net from a SEO point of view? or does it not matter what the extension is?

    Thanks

From an SEO standpoint, I think .com would hold more weight than .net, but not so much that it makes a real difference. Now a .org is the way to go for SEO, but most .org are non-profit sites with good original content. But, .org definitely makes a difference in the SERP's

    Hope this helps!

I'm personally of the opinion that .com, .net and .org hold no difference at all in google. I don't have personal experience with other tld's (I've always simply hated the way they looked), so I can't really comment there.

    This is wrong...

    This is right...

Domain extensions make no difference for SEO. It will be your link building campaign that decides how well you do in the serps... Hope that helps... Although imho a .com is the way to go over a .net/.org unless you're running a non-profit organization whereupon a .org could be acceptible.

The biggest difference between .com, net and org etc. is not in the SERPS but rather from “type in” traffic. This is not likely to matter much unless your website becomes popular, however, if it does you can expect to lose between 10 and 15% of all type in traffic to your site. I don’t just mean type in traffic from the address bar on your visitor’s browsers either, a check at OVT shows 13,644.1 /day for “.com” but only 969.5 /day for “.net” and 485.4 /day for .org. This proves that even though internet visitors are becoming more and more knowledgeable each day .com is still the first extension that comes to mind.

I own the .com of a reasonably popular website that went live several months after I registered my domain and I estimate that they lose well over 300 unique visitors each day to my .com version. Conversely, there are some optimal situations where .net or .org are good fits (non-profits organizations being the most obvious for .org) but in almost every case the .net and or .org will lose traffic to the .com.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
    Kimmy

My experience shows that the extensions do not matter at this point of time.If you are getting your choice domain in .com , u should prefer that for a long run.

Yes, there's no difference from an SEO point of view. The only differnce a TLD can make is when a local extension .co.uk for example, gives you a boost in the local SERPS
