South Asian Analyst and War historian Brian Cloughley writes: I’ve got news for Panetta. If he imagines the Pakistan Army will be a pushover like the Iraqis, he should think again. If US forces attempt an invasion of North Waziristan they will meet reaction not only from militants but from an army which will not accept flagrant violation of national sovereignty. I know the Pakistan Army, and I state flatly that man-for-man it will hammer any opponent, no matter if the skies are horizon-filled with US bombers. Does America think this is a price worth paying? I bet you loved that bit of chest thumping, no matter how contradictory and out of touch with reality it is. The very nature of an air vs ground conflict is not "man-for-man". An AC-130 gunship flying overhead turning armies into hamburger is hardly a man-on-man conflict, so unless you like dwelling in small numbers in caves, it wouldn't be the type of conflict you would seek out. Besides, who needs to invade Pakistan. Cutting off the USD$3 billion we send Pakistan a year should be plenty enough to cause it to collapse all on it's own, and lets be honest, thats what really keeps you up at night.
I think people have forgotten that the true power of a bomber is not only to take out a radar or a tank like a F18 does but rather to raze entire battalions like the B1 , B2 and B52 can . That massive power hasn't been showcased since the 1st Gulf War , perhaps a demonstration is in order ?
Oh really? May be Brian Cloughely will like to explain why 90 thousands of those 'men' surrendered to Indian Air might, which is honestly 10% of American Air might. What happened in 1971, Genius? On the side note: I have a feeling that we are going to see yet another military dictatorship in Pakistan in 2012..
Monetary sanctions or the hamburger option seem to be the most feasible. Any ground confrontation at this point with countries as overpopulated and underfunded would be suicide.
Well obviously. I do believe the war between these two countries is coming, and the only real reason is overpopulation. Both countries need to do something with people they cannot provide for. They cannot kill their own people themselves so.. there you go. Whatever the official reason for the war will be decl;ared, land, water, religion, the only real reason is inability to curb the population growth.
