If you want to purchase an available domain use GoDaddy. For aftermarket domains you can try GoDaddy Auctions (which has thousands of listings and many of them sell at a reasonable price) or even eBay (Yes! I was able to grab some great domains for 25$ - they usually push it to your GoDaddy account).

If you want to resell domain names make sure to use GoDaddy as their transfer process is very easy to use and costs nothing.

Local vendors often charge extra fees for their service and you might end up paying way more than you could pay for a reputed domain registrar. One of my past client had very bad experience with a local domain vendor and now his corporate domain is locked to that company.

Godaddy is full of ads and their products and thus I hate them when it comes to buying domains.
I prefer sites which got no advertisements while buying domains. One of them which I use is Internetbs.net !

domain.yahoo.com is a good place. They accept paypal, fast activation and easy to manage your domain.

1&1 sucks. For registering a domain, they ask you a photo of your passport, unlike every other registrar.

Yeah I agree 1and1 is a scam site. Don't ever trust them even if they give away for free.

I use to use Name.com, but then they upped their prices and got rid of Free WhoIs, so I switched over to Namecheap.com, and they always have a coupon running for 10% off domain names, and offer Free WhoIs. They are the only company I use now, and have been completely satisfied.

1@1 Pricing is higher than that of namecheap.com, 1and1.com is a joke. They are now advertising on TV which I suppose is an attempt to increase business. Don't understand though, because they can't even handle their current load of customers. Their customer service is cold and slow. There DNS changing processes is turtle slow (min 48 hours). The control panel is subpar and often has glitches
