Without Shoeb and asif lets see who they do at world cup. Its not much time left to recoupe the damage due to ban.
Yes I also feel that Australia is going to win.But as India is not there, tickets at Brebaun must not have been sold completely. Many people might want to sell their tickets.
The Aussies win the final comprenhensively, thrashing the Windies after surviving the early onslaught by Gayle.
When West Indies were 80+ runs in 9 overs, I thought they will make 350+ runs but surprisingly all out for 139 Runs only and Aussies were good enough to chase it down quickly.
I was spot-on in my prediction, I was surprised the Windies got so far though. It was a pretty disappointing tournament all in all. The low scoring pitches didn't exactly help.
Thats true. I kinda enjoyed watching the bowlers get the better of the batsmen and minnows upset giants. But in the end as a spectator you want high scoring games chased. And I wonder why the pitches weren't the dustbowls that they were supposed to be. The dew factor was a bit overhyped and they could have made the start in the morning instead of the afternoon. The good thing, no team was the all conquering one, thus leaving us with the hope that we will see a competitive tournament in the Carribean. Now waiting for the World Cup
Lot has been already said about how pitches in India are always made in favor of Indian players. Now when the pitches were fast & bouncy...ppl still complained
Everyone requires some reason to complain so this time its the pitches But i felt that the pitches were fair enough - scores of 240+ on an average gave us a break from the 400+ bowler's "grave" kinda pitches.. And there was atleast some contest between bat and ball.
You're right, it was good to see the bowlers do well, but I think the advertisers won't be too happy that some of the games ended so early. With the memory of the amazing game between Australia and South Africa failry new it was disappointing there wasn't anything that came close to matching that.
Yes, cricket matches in India are about sixes, boundaries and scores above 300. I am sure the revenue made from this tournament was far too less compared to the expectations.
While it's not really fair on the bowlers, crowds do come to see the ball being smashed out of the ground. Hopefully we'll see more of that in the World Cup
It could go either way, they can produce some very good pitches, there's usually a good mix in the Carribian, some good batting wickets, and others that zip about and have some crazy bounce.
In the Carribean the ball comes nicely to the bat - the bounce and pace which was once a part of their pitches has lost sheen in past few years.. mayb changing climatic conditions are responsible for the same.
I think it has more to do with the Windies losing their realy quick pacemen like Ambrose and Walsh. Those guys were so quick that they were dangerous. They just don't have anyone like that anymore. Very few teams do.
The guys in the 70's and 80's were more dangerous than Walsh and Ambrose. Garner, Holding, Marshall, Roberts Among the current lot, Taylor is quick. So is Edwards. Pace along with accuracy is a rare combination, though.
Those guys were a bit before my time, I have seen games that Malcolm Marshall and Joel Garner played in, those were the days before helmets came into frequent use as well
They were before my time too But thanks to technology, I have managed to see glimpses of their stuff and they were awesome..no doubt about that...Walsh actually cost WI a spot in the 87 final, he refrained from Mankading somebody when he could have, in an act of generosity. The atmosphere in the Carribean is quite good. The guys there love their cricket too....
