Found this site with images of the Ganges river where you might often find images from National Geographic, to Time magazine and many others, what they don't show you is the images on the link (again, this is a warning that the following link contains images of filt, dead corpes etc,..). It's not so much of the "population", it's the way this bitches "believing" that a place like the Ganges river could never be dirty; they take their bath, drink the same water that had been defecated, while dead corpse of people and animals laying in front of them, it doesn't seem to concern them because of what they believe. You would figure that that the obvious would be of concern to them, but that's not the case with them, they believe in what they believe and nothing could deter them even though diseases and death meets them in the end.
