The thing is why do we(the users) let you(owner of this forum) make money just for nothing.
If owner is making money with our posts and threads then they should also give us something (like the dofollow backlinks)

Simple answer to build content, As everyone know content is money.more content means more traffic, more traffic means more money.
Similarly I allow bloggers for guest-posting in my blog.

I'm not here to build backlinks at all. I'm here for information, to give advice and to stalk people. I don't care about the dofollow/nofollow signature links. If you are here for signature links and nothing else then go find another forum.

Perhaps start your own forum if you so worried about the signature links on here. It's shawn's forum and he can do what ever he wants. It seems this signature change has not killed DP's unique visitors. Seems he's doing something right. :p

To be honest, we don't really need more content... we have plenty. We had plenty of content before we even had a forum.

A lot of others forum do this already. I'm surprised this wasn't done at an earlier stage, considering the amount of people who register up only for forum back-links. Or like some services advertised on here. i.e. automated bots which go around creating forum accounts with 'x' persons website in the signature. Or people who do this to only spam; crappy websites.

Although I can understand how it is sort of a situation where the good users get punished as well as those who only do the above. However if it cuts down on spam posts, or generally crappy posts then I'm all for it, though I highly doubt it will.

Are you really serious? Atleast I didn't start posting here for the backlinks it's the interaction between the members and the opportunity to promote your service as well as grow your business and make contact with people (so called nettworking).

Also if you depend on the backlinks you can buy the premium membership and if the algo thinks your links are worth it they will bekome dofollow. But still I think there are various other reasons for posting here besides earning a backlink also backlinks from the same URL are not worth that much anymore even if they are dofollow and have some trust ;)

Been stealing prozac from your cat have you ? Your reply doesnt make sense at all.

The reply shows you have no clue and I know you have, so why are you trashing every member that have ever posted anything on this forum ?

I'm not trashing anyone, just saying that the site was around for about 10 years before the forum opened. The forum is not what the site revolves around.

I don't think anyone here realizes that the forum itself is completely secondary. It was born out of necessity and a migration away from old outdated mailing lists. Everything else that followed was due to a support mailing list and a set of tools and products/software sold by digital point.. Again, everything the forum became was completely secondary. I don't think anyone really knew or expected it to be what it became. I know I had a hell of a time moving off of the old mailing lists way back when. If I had jumped ship earlier, I might be member number 3 or 4 instead of 500.

So it's been about 5 months since we made the change... comparing the last 30 days to the 30 days prior to the change, there has been a slight shift in user demographics (which is exactly what I expected)...

    Since the change...

    - Overall traffic is up slightly (about 4%).

Generally traffic is up in English speaking and European countries, and down in non-English speaking countries...

    - United States traffic is up 5%
    - United Kingdom traffic is up 4%
    - Canada traffic is up 4%
    - Australia traffic is up 6%
    - Germany traffic is up 4%

    - India traffic is down 7%
    - Indonesia traffic is down 9%
    - Pakistan traffic is down 5%
    - Philippine traffic is down 6%
    - Vietname traffic is down 4%
    - China traffic is down 5%

    etc...

The countries that have lower traffic are generally in line with the countries we've had the most problems with people posting pointless crap just to run up their post count.

I have absolutely nothing against anyone from any specific country, but there's no denying that certain countries tend to have a large percentage of spammers... and we are starting to see a measurable shift of traffic away from those countries.

Like I've always said, the nofollow thing was just one small change of many (we are always making changes for the overall benefit of the site)... but so far I'm fairly happy with the change.

    Awesome!
Even better! (though it seems like most people here are from them places)
    SO TRUE
    ------------------------
I didn't like the idea of the nofollow tag at first (only cuz I rent out my sig to pay my premium member fee) =p
BUT I love these results and hope they get even better =)
