I've been using Serpfox, it seems to work quite well. You can track up to 10 keywords for free I believe, and you can set rules for notifications upon certain changes.

It should be fairly quick since Google upgraded their API servers. What sort of timeframe are you seeing? I see everything I'm tracking updated in less than a minute (maybe a hundred or so).
