Hi, Recently,I have observed that sites ranking on prominent keywords on whatever topic have keyword in their URL. My Question is that is it really important to have prominent keyword in your URL for SEO Ranking? Please guide.
Hey eric, that was pretty good and contradictory question, here is the article posted upon this: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/do-brands-need-an-exact-match-domain/36102/ but as most of them say that, in the recent google panda update, these type of domains has been effected but in the above article it isn't.., so its something contradictory to the statement. So, i recomment that, if you want to be bigshot in your business niche, then it is better to go without keyword in ur URL and develop it as a BRAND or else if you like to their in a business for a short period., then defintely go for keyword specific URL. regards, uday
It's a good practice to have keyword in URL for onpage SEO... just add some hyphens or a word at the end of the keyword when choosing domain name.
If the topic of the post / page is explaining what is in the URL then I think you are safe, but if you are posting about sports and you put some irrelevant keyword in URL to get high ranking then you will be trouble.
it helps, but still its not a requirement. You will notice many in top 10 of seaches for a particular keyword do not have the keyword in the domain name
Here is a video from Matt Cutts about keywords in the domain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAWFv43qubI&feature=related Another video is about keeywords in the URL and the position: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRzMhlFZz9I&feature=player_embedded
Most definitely, any and all urls should have your keyword/phrase in it, it sure makes life a lot easier.
Many search engines are using the keywords that their spiders find in the domain name (URL) of a website as a part of their ranking formula. One of these search engines that utilizes this method of indexing is Google. Yahoo! themselves use Google as a provider of non-directory search results and search engines such as Inktomi use keywords in the domain name as a strong factor in their ranking formula. Over time it appears that more and more search engines are using this strategy to help achieve better search results for all of their visitors, and this ultimately translates into better positioning for those smart enough to incorporate such a method into their web pages. In order to take full advantage of this method, you will need to include your most important keywords in your URL. One suggestion is that you could begin by separating each word with a hyphen. The benefit here is that you will have a much better chance in finding a suitable domain name, (one that includes your most important keywords). You can also try several different combinations of a chosen domain name using hyphens.
Ok thanks for pointing it out. But even without any keywords in any of the URLS associated with my domain, my site still was able to reach page 2 of google for that particular keyword. The only thing that got me there was backlinks and more backlinks. Hoping to get to page 1 soon, it's still rising.
It is always good to have keyword in site url and aslo make sure that url should as smaller as possible becuase it user friendly for subscribers.
Well, having keywords in url is one of the best way to receive maximum output form the SEO activity. Keywords in URL helps the search engine better crawl the web page and get priority in terms of SERP placement for that particular keywords.
According to SEO point of view using keyword in URL is beneficial for getting Ranking..and also URL structure not more than 2048 character because more than this Internet Explorer does not open theses url......
