Google Page rank just got updated few hours back. My directory has retained its PR - Glad that all inner pages got its PR updated. Looks like directories who manipulate page rank by buying high PR links still enjoy good page rank. In fact few directories that were PR 7 jumped to PR 8 just because they had high PR paid links pointing to them. Very unfortunate. I guess Google is not worrying about link buying directories these days. How is your directory is doing in terms of Page Rank?
As far the directory is human edited and is well maintained with, in Google eye its not a spam. There was a video too, but could not find it any more. O, wow,men your directory has a Pr of 8. See you soon!
These may be your famous last words, your pr shows as unranked on my Qirkbar, these updates sometimes take a few days to average out.
Definitely seeing the continuation of those high PR directories. I don't think google even cares anymore about it honestly. They are focused on adwords, not organic results. It has been difficult for me to withhold judgment on things like this but I know people are trying to feed their families and there are worse things one could do. I still don't get involved personally, but if google isn't going to do anything about it, I find it hard to be judgmental. I see some that have had the PR for more than a year.
Good point. If the police say it's a "crime" and then when you report it to them, they shrug their shoulders, why are you going to bother reporting it again? If they don't care, why should we?
Well it ain't just directories that use whatever SEO technique they can is it? Weightwatchers still has a footer link on the Lebanese Tourism Page. Motley Fool (rather large UK mortgage company) has a link on a persian cat page and the more websites you visit the more you see. If you buy a link in a directory then you aren't responsible for the SEO technique the directory uses anyway. No point getting uptight about it.
I do not know for you guys but most of my sites and directories are the same.....no big change.....a +1 here and there an -1 for two sites.
It is valid to buy paid links to promote directories, but paying hacker to get high PR juices is another story.
I agree. In cases of hacking or cases where a webmaster from a large institution takes a bribe to place a hidden link on a site, I think that there are too many ways for the shit to hit the fan. In that case, the listing you paid $60 for could become useless overnight. I am noticing that the definition of black hat changes with time. If you take a very broad definition you can end up including almost all sites in your list.
A substantial number of sites witnessed the pagerank update today across several datacenters of Google. Google is believed to have rolled out the fresh algorithm changes, which is said to be affecting a massive 35% of searches. it's ,ay be possible I guess Google is not worrying about link buying directories these days.
We don't focus on PR but it's always nice to have a decent one. After 7+ years our web directory has moved in PR both up and down. It seems fairly stable were it's out now... but again we don't focus on it.
I did a bit of tracing on these directories a while back. I believe that it is a web design firm/s sneaking links that of course the client can't see rather than hacking and bribery. But then I always try to think nice things about people.
You are nice. I wouldn't consider a web design company ripping off it's clients nice at all. In the worst case scenario it could cost a company huge dollars in lost profit.
The web design look's the same on most of them. But i think a lot of them are hosted by singular individual's who are buying high link's to increase their page rank. If you do a search here on DP, you will find who owns them to.
I was glad that some of my blogs have gained a PR of 1. However, I was expecting a higher PR for my personal blog, but it was also a PR1.
Thats correct about Google. It has been putting in its own automated system without giving much thought to the purchased links.
