hey guys, do you think showing a bunch of your blog tags cloud on your blog is good for SEO? if so, how many are good to show? i seem to have about 15 and dont know if thats good for seo, especially on the homepage. Also, why are some tags larger in font size?
The tag cloud increases the keyword density in a webpage. The links created by the tags are text links rich in keywords. Visitors like navigating around within tag clouds because they can quickly find topics of interest and save time. But keep a limit to the number of tags in the tag cloud because otherwise it may be considered as keyword stuffing and will affect your SEO negatively.
Hi, Some do, some don't - but I don't use tags at all on my site because of the possible duplicate content issue. Regards Catherine
Tag clouds help in on-page SEO as most of the time since the tags tend to be the same keywords you want to rank for. They are helpful to have in the sidebar too since they help visitors browse through your articles faster.
I haven't come across any information about tags causing duplicate content issues. I've read several articles on duplicate content on the Google Webmaster such as this one . You might want to go over that as I think it's helpful in clarifying what Google defines as duplicate content and what is not. Hope that helps. Have a good day!
Hi, I should clarify. I use WordPress. I don't use the same tags off my website (in a similar article) when trying to rank for a keyword. I agree tags can help with SEO depending on your site structure. I use the all in one SEO plugin. However, when addressing the duplicate issues as far as tags and categories go, I don't use tags and I don't post in more than one category in WordPress because Google doesn't want us to publish the same content to different areas of our sites. This is my take on it. Regards Catherine BTW BizJam55, the more prominent keywords are a larger size in the tag cloud.
Tag clouds *might* cause duplicate content... but only if the cloud creates a 2nd URL to a blog post. Here's an example: You write a blog post about iPhones. Typically, the URL to that blog post will be something like: www-Example.com/blog/smartphones/iphones If your tag cloud shows "iPhones" and uses a different URL, like www-Example.com/blog/tags/iphones ... then you've got duplicate content.
Tag clouds are great for SEO, and they will increase your traffic slowly over time, but don't have too many tags because it could be seen as keyword stuffing. From a user standpoint however, categories are more useful. Hope that helps!
