Anyone who spends any time at all on that forum gets a pretty clear picture of what the movement is all about. New factions are popping up, and I would expect it to splinter off into several smaller groups sometime in the near future. It'll be entertaining to watch.

@BlueStar/EarlPearl: I don't think idolizing people because they wore a uniform is a good idea. Take Scott Camil, for instance. Here is a soldier who decided to sympathize with the people we were at war with, to the point where he forwarded a plot to kill sitting US Senators who were in favor of the war. John Kerry, a current US Senator and former vet, actually sat in with this group of "Vets" while they discussed these very actions.

I'm not implying Shagmar is out to overthrow our government, but there are a lot of misguided people roaming the streets who have no idea what this thing is about. They are just pissed off. Scott Olsen, on the other hand, was a member of the Iraq Vets against the War from long ago. Going a step further, according to his blogs, he is also very much against the USMC. He's entitled to his opinion, but he's hardly the type of soldier I would look up to and say, "Here is a guy I respect".

Anyway, these are all distractions. The whole thing is coordinated and run by Foreign nationals who are Anarchists and Marxists. Any self respecting American who was aware of those facts wouldn't touch this protest with a 10 foot pole.

As far as radicals, anarchists, anti-capitalists, communists, socialists, in the OWS movement, I don't think they're a tall tale from the right-wing. You don't have to look hard to find them. The origins of the movement being from anarchist Canadians appears well-founded. In addition, I believe they could be trying to guide the direction this is all taking.

I do support getting rid of the extensive influence corporations have in our politics. That's pretty much it. But, among other things, I think there is an irrational hatred for this "evil" 1%, lots of feelings of entitlement, the desire for big government, and all kinds of opportunists jumping on this bandwagon (American Nazi Party). Further, I resent the fact that they call themselves the 99%, as they don't really speak for me (or anyone I know offline). I think as this grows, there is a good possibility it will escalate into violence once they build up forces. Like I said before, I don't see this ending well. With that said, I don't feel disrespect for individuals with good intentions that join, that includes veterans, or for that matter, even Nima that started the other thread, really, a lot of people are just frustrated and sick of the status quo. I understand. Personally, I was on the fence for quite awhile trying to decide whether I could support them or not, but have decided on not.

Interesting graphs. Especially in this economy, lots of desperation. I don't like seeing the vast wealth inequalities in our country, truly, I would much rather have a larger middle class.

I hadn't thought of them splintering off into different groups, but you're right. I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Pointing out a problem is easy. It is the solution that is going to be painful, and we don't exactly have an "A" team in place to inact solutions that are going to be constructive. Obama is way to focused on class warfare. He or Rahm could have drafted the OWS theme of demonizing the 1%. According to them, bumping the tax rate on millionaires could fix all of our problems.

I think Republicans realize closing tax loopholes and making our progressive tax system progressive in more than name is a necessity, but it will be used as a bargaining chip against the spending cuts Democrats refuse to make. Our government used to run at a small deficit with around 18% of GDP in tax revenues and slightly more than 18% in expenditures. We are currently spending 25% of GDP while collecting 15%. That means we have 7% of GDP in spending cuts to effect, and 3% of GDP in revenue increases to achieve. Its not going to happen under Obama, so lets hope whoever we get in 2012 has the leadership skills to make it happen.

I wish I could say I thought of it, but I got it out of Graebers interview. Its all part of the master plan. When you think about the diversity of that crowd, it is inevitable. Obviously the NeoNazis are not going to vote the same way on immigration issues as the hippies, though it is very curious to see the pure lack of minorities in the crowd. I don't think Oakland has seen this many white people in it's streets.... ever.

What you refuse to realize is that It won't happen under Obama, and It won't happen under any of the republican candidates. The problem is not with one party. It is with how corrupt the system has become such that it can't fix itself anymore.

We need drastic changes in policies and the way politics are handled in Washington. Before anything else, we need to make lobbying illegal or at the very least put limits on how much they can contribute (maximum $1000 per corporation is way more than enough) and also 100% transparency on which politician gets how much and from who.

Let me paraphrase. According to you, the system is too corrupt to fix so we need to legislate some laws to fix it, but no person in office will do it and no person we put in office will do it. Its a bit like saying, "What needs to be done is obvious but impossible"

This brings us to the real message of Occupy Wall St. : Revolution

If I have it wrong, by all means correct the record. Provide the detailed non-revolution based solution, which works within the bounds of our current political process, that you left out of your previous post.

    http://decoded.nationaljournal.com/2011/11/poll-voters-viewing-occupy-wal.php

As it turns out, only 30% of voting Americans view the so-called 99% in a positive light, as opposed to nearly 40% who disapprove, and 30% who haven't made up their mind. As the foreign roots and support of this organization become more well known, and the violence spreads, you should expect the favorable numbers to approach zero. It was a good run though.

Here are the '99%' defending the special interests of government worker unions, and protesting Scott Walker for arrests made by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanual. Stupidity reaches new lows.

It does sound like your talking about a revolution. The "We are the 99%" is an illusion, OWS is not actually representing the 99%. And, we're not going to vote out all the Democrats and Republicans out of office so OWS members will be happy. They aren't voluntarily stepping down, just because protesters are camping out in a park. What could happen is a mob of angry OWS supporters, that attempt to violently overthrow our government. But, I do think that would be considered treason, and they would probably all end up going to prison, or worse.

It's interesting that neither of you deny that the system is that corrupted. you just deem drastic change impossible. No one is talking about a violent revolution or a complete change of the system. However large protests and strikes will force even current politicians to take the (hard for them) necessary measures

It will force them, how? Anyway, OWS isn't representing me, should a politician simply ignore constituents that are too busy to stand outside all day carrying a sign?

    On a side note,

...here's a funny thread on the OWS forum:

I dare you to get off your chair (for once), go inside your local OWS and check their citizenship for yourself - instead of constantly browsing OWS forum to quote on this forum as a sign that you're supposedly educated about the movement (or even problems in the country)

Corruption is a part of any government. US has been traditionally very low on the relative corruption index, though it may have spiked up a bit of recent. It is certainly no Mexico, Iran, Greece, Spain, etc.

You are simply avoiding the questions, despite ALL the mounding evidence pretaining to this movement.

Even if that were possible, would it disprove the FACT the money handlers and managers of the forum the promotes and controls the message are all foreign born? No, it wouldn't. I do suspect that, if ICE were to roll through Zuccotti park they would find a sizeable number of non-citizens protesting the US government.

Since we are on the topic, are you a US citizen? You've been here 10 years so you could be. Then again, so was Faisal Shahzad.

Yes Nima, I should get off my chair for once!!! You're making this comment, based on what exactly? I actually work 6 days a week at a corporate office, about 48 hours a week. Beyond that, I do all the shopping, errands, cooking, and keep the house fairly clean.

Right. We should all go up to strangers at OWS gatherings, and demand they show us all their personal identification documents! I'm sure that will work out well.

Pfft. Nima, your entire post has just consisted of straw man arguments. I'm not constantly browsing it. But, Occupywallst.org is the official site for OWS, and like it or not, it would represent the movement.

pfff. I also work over 50 hours a week, have two jobs, maintain 3 large websites, and am active politically. what does that have to do with my comment?

You make (serious and untrue) allegations against #ows where you have such a limited knowledge of what's going at their camps. Get off your coach, go talk to 5 of them, attend one of their general assemblies, and for once, listen.

You think it's a bunch of Canadians that are protesting in Houston, Dallas, LA, Oakland, Boston, Atlanta, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, D.C., and the list goes on. I'm just saying you're too uninformed to make baseless allegations.

And apparently you are too ill informed to answer questions or respond to issues, resorting instead to useless unprofitable generalities like, "Goto a protest and see for yourself how many citizens there are".

    Are you a US citizen?

Did you dislike the system of Government in the US prior to moving here?

If not, why did you stay when you changed your mind? Why not just move back to Iran?

Can you acknowledge that the founders of this movement are foreigners with a political ideology of anarchy, as proven time and again throughout this thread?

Can you even acknowledge that OccupyWallSt.org website is the "Offical" website of the movement?

Would yo be ok with US Citizens heading to Turkey to foment unrest with a stated object of regime change?

Do you think the people in Turkey would be OK with that?

Answer a question, or not. Seems you have very little to offer on this thread other than mindless propaganda.

Obamanation, I think by now we've established you're a foreigner/immigrant hating individual who's forgotten who this country was built by to begin with. That's fine.

I am a citizen, I actually believe this countries' constitution is one of the better ones out of most other countries (too bad none of the politicians are holding it up and you're attacking me instead of those who're actually doing nothing but fu#%ing it up). This movement is 100% carried by American people because of the injustice and inequality that has been nothing but widening in the past two decades (there was a time that U.S. was the destination to go for everyone in the world). OccupyWallStreet.org is the official website for those who are occupying in wall street. OccupyDallas.org is the official website for those who are occupying in Dallas and so forth. Why is it so hard for you to accept that there is no leadership in this movement?

once again you, like Rebecca, claim those who are #ows are foreigners (perhaps Canadians from your previous posts). well, you're wrong. If you don't want to go to a single #ows to see for yourself, then that's your choice.

I find it ironic that you ask whether its ok for people of Turkey to come here and try to change the government but you don't protest the fact that we go to every country we please and change their government (with bombs). Perhaps you consider that to be ok.

Since you seem to be in a mood to discuss and respond to questions, let me restate this question from another previous post of mine you ignored.
Should be a great opportunity to layout your platform for change.

And one last question. When public sentiment reaches 65% against OWS and 20% for, will you get off our streets and quit damaging public and private property? Or will it need to goto 90/10?

By way of distraction, you did provide us with this nice little ad hom:
    And this lie:
Did you even read the scientific polling data showing 30% support for the protesters, with 40% disapproval? Are you impervious to facts?

Alright. I give up. you win. There are no lessons learned if this is about me attacking you and you attacking me rather than discussing the issues.

I'll simply read the thread from now on. Cheers

Or engage in the discussion and communicate. A lot easier when you got 50 people with you to shout down dissenting opinion and facts, isn't it.

What? Let me tell you what an American is. The word itself means "home ruler". That literally means "one who rules his own home". It comes from the first name of Amerigo Vespucci. LINK

Those who do not "rule their own homes" are NOT true Americans. But in "the land of the free and the brave", they are not only losing the rule of their homes, they are losing the homes they are using on credit. Do not give up so easily. Your fight is worth it. If I am wrong, then I myself will stop promoting liberty.

Be an American, fight for your rights, do not worry about Digital Point subscribers. Do what is in your heart.
