Facebook is for chit chat and watching friend's fotos. Not very good for business. The competitor? Twitter.

There are many other social networks for business like rayze.com, linkedin.com and twitter is the biggest competitor.

Facebook is a great site for business, weather you are marketing CPA the internet marketing niche or a regular local business. Twitter is also great and can be used with Facebook for promoting a business.

It would seem FB is definitely for business - Coke, Dish Network and many other major companies are now referring people to their FB page rather than to their websites. Just noticing this . . .

Facebook is just one of the social networking sites for business. Apart from this, there is Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Delicious, Mouthshut among the others.

Everyone knows about the importance of social media marketing these days, but in order to be a top networker, one must go beyond the conventional Twitter feeds and Facebook fan pages.

You have to find the right forums, blogs, directories, bookmarking sites, etc, etc that ARE WITHIN your niche to really have a good effect SEO and Social Media wise... and here lies the challenge for most small business owners.
    1) What are they?
    2) How do I create a proper Profile on them?
    3) How do I use them?
    4) Who has time to keep up with them all?

Of course, you have to be on linkedin as well, they just updated their business profile section.

There are literally thousands of what we call "micro social networking sites" out there. The secret again is knowing where, what and how to use them for the maximum effect for SEO, traffic and leads. ... oops, gota run, 2000 more social networks just came online, Google just cancelled 12 of theirs, and the others just made major updates, hehe :)

Google+ is probably their biggest threat, but that isn't doing too well lately.

Linkedin is the business social network with 200 million business people/businesses on there. I'd also mention manta that has 68 million businesses (mainly US at moment) on it. These are of course if the business is trying to do B2B or link up with other companies. If it's B2C then maybe a facebook fansite is better.

Actually Google + is probably the best, they are still growing significantly and unlike Facebook and Twitter, Google search bots actually crawl Google+ profiles and link postings there will (some say already do) affect your search engine rankings... but they need to keep growing. Although it is my belief that social is very important to Google because their goal is always search relevancy and Social media provides a method of search relevancy that no algorithm in the world can compete with so Google+ might be a make it or break kind of deal for them.

It was orkut which ruled most of the people before myspace and facebook. It is just the craze of people to use the new stuff. But if that is the case google+ was not that well received. This is because the change has to be very valuable for the users which was lacking in google+. That is not the only reason, facebook had everything users wanted and was constantly enhancing it which other competitors dint stand on.
