Seems like right now they are updating PR every couple of weeks. However, it may go back to every few months. You never know with Google and to keep things fair Big G will never tell us until after the update happens.

Agreed. Google is very secretive about their exact methods. Keep focusing on basice SEO such as creating backlinks and hope for a move up in PR.

The thing is that the PR gets updated real time, the PR value you see in the toolbars is just a snapshot of that moment when Google updated the toolbar values, so if you are not a link seller, then those updates are not that important

When you say update, is this a full update, or one of google's very-very-little-gets-changed-but-everyone-decides-to-call-it-an-update update? Cause my pagerank values stay absolute rock-still no matter what I do. Also, has google ever announced anything about an update, even after it happens?

Well if your PR is rock solid that means the PR of your inbound links is rock solid. Now if you want to increase from say a 3 to a 4. Focus your attention on building inbound links that have actual PR of 4+. You want to make sure the PR is on the actual page of your link.

With regard what type of pr update Google does, your guess is as good as mine. Now I did hear Matt Cutt's describe a PR update as like running a Cronjob so I am uncertain if there are "partial" updates. I think you may just not feel it because the actual PR of your IBL has not changed.

I'm not completely unfamiliar with what I need to do to raise my PR... I spend a lot of time trying to get links (any PR). It's aggravating... for example, I've got:

    - my first site, a wordpress blog. Not very well organized, hasn't been updated in a year and a half. Didn't know much about SEO at all. Put no thought at all into keywords. Hardly any links.
    - my latest 2 sites, updated continuously. Reading as much as I can. Working on it every day.

All of them are PR1. I have no idea if they'll ever be any higher. I have no idea if what I'm doing is effective at all. No idea.

However PR updates happen, I think we can safely rule out this "cron job" idea. Regular updates, these aren't. Not sure what to make of the partial updates. I'm starting to suspect that whatever process does the updates is crashing and no one care to start it up again.
