Hi, I noticed looking at my logs that my number 1 most searched term from search engines is my domain name. My domain name by far exceeds all the other searched terms and it is not even a keyword that would come in mind. I mean why would anyone search about my domain name? They have the domain name in hand so why don't they simply type the domain name at their web browser address window to get to my website. I am suspecting that these web-surfers are in fact competitors who are simply searching my domain name to find out what my backlinks are. What do you guys think?
People may be looking to see if the domain is available to purchase. And like pfgannon said, huge numbers of people will type "google.com" into their address bar, then type "myspace.com" into google. Bizaare.
Even if it's your competitors, you keep building your back links and stick to the domain. Let them search... Bye
It means that you don't have enough content. My company name is #19 of the most popular keywords. If you included the www it is number 289 and if you include the http it is over 8000.
technically, you're totally correct.. if he had more content, he'd likely get other searches leading to his url.. .BUT that's not his question... The answer to the question i THINK he is asking is: people are lazy. instead of typing in www.yahoo.com, people prefer to type into GOOGLE "yahoo" then just click the link. thats 13 characters vs 5 characters to type
Its not that people are lazy, but they are used to do it this way. They search it on Google, Yahoo! or any search engine and then enter your website from there. I see my friends doing it all the time.
Hi I get the same thing. my website is www.your-bids.com my main keyword is online auction. but i cant find it with that keyword anywere.but if i type your-bids it comes up in no 1 spot on msn and if i type your bids it comes up in 5th. my freind allso has a website. www.officialchrisphotos.com and his main keyword is wedding photograpyh and yet to be found useing it,but if you type (chriss photos) it comes in at no 1 on google and (chris photos) comes in at 7th.why does this hapen when your pages are set for your keywords. its like you spend all this time getting your keywords to work but they just dont. i would certanly like to see my website come up anywere on google using the keyword (auction) or (online auction)
its hard to be in google number one under that name your site must be active in order to bump up and popular since they are a lot of online auction like overstock yahoo ebay big companies usually get the high spots
a lot of people use the url bar (the drop down list that stores sites you type in) as a type of bookmarking thing. I do this, so I'll search for the domain if there isn't a link so it doesn't clog up the url bar. I've seen a lot of my friends do this also.
i know why it happens. most people use a search engine as home page. msn, and (for the last a year or so) google is using a javascript to focus on the search text field. so, a user opens his/her browser, clicks on the address bar, and when he was just about to start typing, that javascript kicks in, and search field gets focus, instead of address bar, and user finds himself typed the url at the search field. i know, you may say "this is so silly". but like a year ago, google hired an ex microsoft search specialist, and when he comes to google, this was the first thing he implemented.
I often type a address into my google toolbar instead of the top address bar. This is because I use the top address bar as kind of my "Favourites", so the sites I frequently go on are on the drop down bar, while random sites I go on; I type into Google.
