I have been trying to move on but cannot...and I have been on same place for 2 days now. Step 2 Writable Check for SMF forum installer I am doing it first time, so no idea what and where to find. What this means "Some files need to be writable for SMF to work properly. This step allows you to let the installer make them writable for you. However, in some cases it won't work - in that case, please make the following files 777 (writable, 755 on some hosts): * Packages/installed.list " It is asking for Server: Username Password Install path: Can anyone help me and explain where will I get the required info and where to create 777, I don't have any installed.list in packages folder, do I need to create it, if YES, what commands I have to write in it? Any help will be highly appreciated. My site is hosted on Godaddy. and I am directly creating a forum in it, www.mydomain/install.php is where I am on right now. Thanks
Hello there, You would need to either use the file manager, or and FTP client to change the permissions on the files, as stated. The 777 and 755 are permission masks for files/folders. Chris
Okay now I have spent, quite a lot of time on SMF after its installation and I couldn't find a single link to create a "new category" for discussion Every time I try to start a discussion on my forum, I only get General Discussion category. Please help me
You asked the question on ForumZAdmin- and it has been answered:http://www.forumzadmin.com/index.php/topic,242.0.html
Oh... man you are using one of more user friendly forum script. Just click the Admin tab and in administrator center then Forum>Create new category and fill the fields and click add category button. Very easy.
