I'm having the same issues with my site, entering a whole paragraph into Google and my site doesn't come up. Do you use a lot of javascript on your page?
Just focus on building content rich sites, google loves these. Unfortunately there is no leagl short cut to get your site ranking higher
Ranking number one is never an easy thing to do and will not happen automatically. You need to do both onsite and offsite SEO and make sure you have quality content.
Your site need to mature and get recognised by google and things will improve. Getting links will help.
I understand its gonna be difficult to get no1 spot for the high competition keywords, but how can it be on the page 2 when I'm searching a 32 word longtail straight from a page on the site?
Ranking is definatly not as easy as you think specially in top 3 Check your Competitors what they are doing then create and build startegy according to that

That means your site still lacking of authority/reputation. Make sure you have very good content first before making strong link building for your site so Google may index plenty of information about your site which lead to rankings..
Concentrate on the quality of your site content. Use unique, good quality and original content to your site. Do not do any automated link building. Just use manual, white hat methods.
It could be a myraid of reasons, maybe there is too much competition for that keyword, or the backlinks of your competition, or the age of your competition and many other factors
First check your website's content has been indexed by Google or not. If not, you can do bookmarking of pages on some good bookmarking sites.
If you stuff high quantity of keywords in your paragraph then it's called keywords stuffing and google will banned your webiste your keyword density should be not more then 7 to 10%. Try to do On-page and off-page optimization for your website.
I doub't your site is banned. If it is a wordpress site, it should post update and ping automatically which will get the search engines interested. These things take time. If you want me to take a look at it, send the url via PM, i'd be happy to check out whats happening there.
because google modified their search with panda. I used to be able to find my site that way, but no more. You have to do a little bit more to rank even for unique paragraph.
