Should I create a separate domain and website for my sales page?

    Hello all,

I run a pretty popular website/blog. I am currently in the process of creating an instructional course for saxophone players, but I'm not sure whether my sales page for this product should be a new page on my site, or a separate sales page site on its own domain.

I like the idea of a separate sales page, but my concern is that I would never get an backlinks to a site that's nothing more than a sales page, since there's no useful content to the 99% of people who aren't ready to buy something. I want to make sure that the site doesn't get buried due to a lack of backlinks and SEO juice.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I'd strongly suggest you purchase your own domain and transfer everything onto a new site, including all links / messages from your blog.

So you mean take my current site and move it over for the sake of having a domain with the same name as my info product?

Of so. that would be a massive undertaking involving rebranding, changing all social media pages, and moving over nearly 200 articles for the sake of a single product which may or may not sell.

    Is this what you're suggesting?

    Thanks so much,

    Doron

I agree to seperate a sale page on its own domain, it's low cost and convenience.

I think you should purchase a domain and keep your all sales and any other material on your own domain.

Well, both of these domains would be mine - so are you saying I should keep the info product sales page separate from my blog?

Don't run off and change domains yet.
What is your page rank of the current domain?
How much traffic do you get?
Is the traffic relevant to your products?
If it is currently a popular domain surely you don't want to start over. If your site has page rank it will flow both directions in regard to getting your pages found and optimized in search engines. I recommend you keep everything on an already popular domain. You will surely get picked up and ranked sooner by the search engines and you can take advantage of the existing users for marketing.
Sub domains are the same as starting with a fresh domain from the organic search perspective so you will also want to avoid that is possible.

just an idea: why not create a subdomain under your current domain and use that as sale page(s). Hostgator let you create the subdomains for free

My page rank is 3 and I generally get 200-300 uniques per day. The traffic is extremely relevant to my product. Taking that into consideration, does your recommendation to keep my sales page on the same domain as my main website still stand?

    Thanks!

i would use the same domain, and just create anew page since you have traffic... anew domain means you have to start getting traffic from scratch.

i suggest you to just make a subdomain from your main domain, just go to your cpanel and create it, it's easy.

Thanks bongted and zzgear. So far my guy feeling is to make the sales page a page on my main website since a sales page alone will probably never rank at all. If I set up the sales page so that it has no sidebar or header, I think that it will do a good job in converting site visitors while keeping within my brand and SEO ranking.

If anyone disagrees, then I'm curious to know.

    Thanks!

There are sales pages out there that rank eventhough they don't have anything else on except information about the product and the link to purchase it. I think it's much better to have your sales page within your own website though. You do not have to show it in your sidebar. You just have to link to it from within your pages.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

It would be useful to have the sales page on the same website, hitting two birds with one stone

I think a lot of these replies thought your site was on a domain not controlled by you (ie: blogger, wordpress.com, etc.).

I think the real question is this: If your current site/blog is related to the saxophone, music, etc. then it makes sense to house your sales page there. If it's a site about video games or something else completely unrelated, then you're better off starting a new domain.

Yes, my site is directly related to my product, which is an instructional program for saxophone players, so I do think that the sales page for this product would be a perfect fit to live on my site.
