Hardware + Software : Mac or PC for multimedia

I am currently studying web development [year 2, direct entry] and while it is the coding side of things i will be dabbling with graphic design, multimedia, flash etc etc - bascially all aspects of the web.

I am curious - is there any benefits purchasing a mac rather than a pc ?
I have always been a pc owner, never owned a mac but I am thinking of moving.

I am asking this as it seems that every graphic designer, web designer or any creative professional I have seen, always is sitting at a mac !, is the software, the hardware itself, the clarity of the screen, the processing power ? what makes these people choose a mac over a pc, why pay twice as much for a mac ?

What are the benefits of having a mac for multimedia design and web design ?, what are the disadvantages ? [are there any software that does not run on a mac ?, etc]

It's the trend and the fact that most Mac owners are to lazy to do maintenance , a PC will run circles around a Mac in terms of performance . However since you plan to use Mac only software maybe you should get a Mac .

Now since you claim to have knowledge tell me how can a 12 core system outperform a 24 core system ? Or how 2 GB of ATI GPU will perform better then 4GB of Nvidia GPU ?

 

My vote goes to the Mac version just because I love the performance even though Apocalypse might be right and in means of hardware you can get better win systems (but you need to tweak them till they are running smooth) So you need to decide wether you want to invest the time or use it to earn some bucks

 

Actually to get a PC running perfectly you only need 2 cheap tools and 5 - 10 minutes per week , but the OP plans to use Mac only software and he dosen't sound to tech savvy , therefore he should get a Mac .

As expected, you are incapable of proving that point. The fact that Windows NEEDS extra power to run the same software doesn't faze you. The fact that you don't need as much processing power on a Mac to run the same software doesn't faze you. Cause Microsoft told you what to think cause you can't think on your own.

Doesn't it bother you that most people talk about getting an Intel i7 processor but that's the same as on a Mac? But Apple guarantees all the software and hardware works together and is interoperable with all their products. Microsoft, Dell, HP and all that won't. But that doesn't bother you at all.

Windows doesn't need that extra power but it has it available , as a result it does the job done faster then any Mac . If I was to render the same file with 10 M anchor points and Gaussian blur on a Mac and then do it on a PC the PC would come on top every time . Why ? The extra power pulls it's weight , when it comes to business value the 200% extra power and 50% lower cost make the PC far more valuable then a Mac . Speaking of errors and such I just remembered that a PC can be made error proof inside a company , all it takes is a simple piece of software and you will never have to worry about errors .

Also why would I get a XBox when a PC does the job far better and it brings me profit ?

About the Intel i7 , it doesn't bother me that people talk about it is a decent CPU and it gets the job done for most people . What bothers me is that I can't get a custom made laptop with a decent CPU (like the Xenon E7-8867L) . It bothers me that laptop resolutions are still behind desktops and that batteries are still in their infancy . It doesn't bother me that I have to pay for support , i pay 20 USD per year for a simple piece of software and that keeps my PC error free . I've never had Windows related problems since the 98 version so why would I be bothered by a problem that doesn't exist ?
