    If you type in ford granada in google a ford granadawebsite a .com appears in number 1 position how ever the meta tags consist of :

    <title>FORDGRANADA.COM - Website home</title>
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1">
    <META content="ford,granada,ghia,coupe" name=keywords>

    how is it ranking so high if title tags are really important , also it doesn't even have any description tags?

    Meta tags are for COMPLETE LOSERS.

    I'm ready to argue this point with anyone. You don't need them if your page has sufficient text to get snippets from.

    Mobilebay,

    its all about the title tag matching the content. I wouldn't have thought the keyword was particularly competitive.

    yes , but theres all this talk saying they are all that, how ever certain sites demonstarte this others however such as above do not, the title tag is so the user can see snippets of what the site is a bout , website home in my opinion does not constitute that

    If you don't have a meta description then Google will choose the snippet from the content of your page.

    Wouldn't you rather choose the snippet yourself than rely on Google to pick it for you? :confused:

    Meta description is used by google and also can flag dup content flags if your not careful.

    The meta keywords dont work for google but they work well for alot of other engines.

    now if you actually look at that result i see it in #3 but i also notice it is not near as strong as the number 4 position result...

    The site in topic is a newer site in the last 2 years with a PR3 and less than 1000 links with no ODP, no yahoo directory, or any other obvious strength.

    The only thing stands out is the domain is using the words specifically.

    No more meta tags for google.Google will ignore meta tags completely. IMO using meta tags is not at all harmful for your site. There are smaller search engines who still consider them.

    All of you people out there competing with me.. Keep leaving your Meta out. LOL.

    Wont change your rank at all in Google. But the other 45% of the searching world still has some result in the algorithm for Meta.

    So drop it out. Cause it takes you about 5 second to put it in right and that is just too much time to be wasting.

    Also like to note that google in no way utilizes the meta tag indicating NOODP either.. Cough cough..

    I got a new domain and put a very simple page while I work on the actual site.
    The page has a meta title, a H1 title and an adsense box. I didn't do anything to have this page indexed or ranked, but the page goes in the 4th page when I search for the keywords that are in the meta title, but not within the 20 first pages when I use words from the H1.
    Not a single backlink. No SEO, no nothing.

    It seems to me that the meta title has, at least, some relevance.

    Two things. Clarify the engine your searching in and the word your searching.

    and

    show the url so i can confirm you have nothing that would cause it to show except the meta

    meta tags help but are not the only mst important things. You must have looked at other factors as well ..... it may be possible that the site would have tremendoes amount of backlinks or may be would be old....or there would be less competition... many factors
