I've been studying the link campaigns of web sites the score top page in Google for my chosen keyword. One in particular is linked to approximately 1000 unique sites. I consider this to be a lot. However while this site has links to many relevant sites with the keyword in anchor texts, approximately 80% are from irrelevant sites. So my question is; does it still count to have many irrelevant inbound links for SEO? Personally I believe that while an irrelevant link may have very little effect, it can still contribute to a sites SE rank to some extent. Opinions....
the algorithms of search engines are more and more correct to determine what link is relevant or not. Making irrelevant link is really a waste of time. You had better use your energy to find a few good links more than install a lot of useless ones.
I think that every link carries some weight more or less but carries some weight so I would not refuse any link especially if I can get a link to deep pages that have lower chances to get indexed.
If you have made those irrelevant links though one way then it'll not hurt you at all but DON'T give you any benefit either (In SERP I mean, don't bother about PR). Reciprocal irrelevant link is very harmful as through that irrelevant linking you send message to search engines that you either don't know what you are doing or not serious about building links for your site. So they will not rank you higher. So only build relevant links for your site.
Posting irrelevant "outgoing" links on your own site is supposedly what can hurt you. Hopefully this is how it works since you are in control of the links on your own site, but can not control how or where others link to you.
What if you post outgoing links on pages that you aren't optimising. For example, to have specific link pages where all links go. Will search engine penalise your whole site or just the page that contains the irrelevant link?
if you can get irrelevant links en-masse and have a trusted domain to point them at, you can rank really highly for just about anything, just about instantly.
does google respond to this as well? it would definitely have to be a very trusted domain i would think
it was google specifically I was referring to. it's worked on just about any domain I've tried it on that's been around before the sandbox was originally created.
I have to agree. I have some sites that have proven very hard to score "quality" links for. So, I've just resorted to links - any and all, I don't care - I take them. Guess what?
Anyone really understands pattern recognition will not agree with you at this. The algorithm is not as advanced as what people think it should be yet. Bear
