If you have $2k... what would you do.

Why would you put $2000 in to something that you don't know how you're going to generate revenue from? Give me the $2,000!

 

Where did he say he wasnt going to generate revenue (I must have missed it). Also, not every website is financially motivated. I am starting a forum this fall / winter and I am spending $2k-$3k and dont expect to make it back. Im more concerned with creating a great community than making money.

Yeah, it is just for the one town, so as I said in the original post, this will be mostly offline advertising. PR and SEO will come in time. I'm mainly just looking for local recognition right now.

What is the business model exactly? You're putting marketing before a business plan from what I can tell. Are you putting the cart before the horse?

Allright, so let me clarify this a little bit. The $2k is not all going to go into the website. I have it available to me, but I doubt that most of it is going into the site.

It is a local website for a university near me. So all marketing done will be offline for right now.

The business model is simple. Once I get the website up and going well, I plan on selling it. I am not staying in this area for a very very long time, so when I move, I will sell the website. Simple as that. Any monetization before then will be through a mixture of AdSense and people purchasing ads directly through me. For now, it will not be monetized though.

Also, I had to change the domain name for a few reasons, so I took the time to update the look for a few of the same reasons. The flyer is now located at www.Clemsonites.com/images/flyer.jpg. However the flyer image there is not the updated one with the new domain on it. I have that one sitting on my computer here and I frankly don't feel like uploading it right now.

Buy cheap clicks on the content network, if you have a social networking type site then hopefully you should get quite a few sign-ups and return visitors. Once you have built up a good user base you can then start to make decent money.
