what's wrong with my site..ctr

hi, i have this blog for about 16 month now, the traffic is low but steady, about 300 impressions/day, and about 200 UV, 90% of them comes from search engines.

the thing is the ctr was good before september, but from then it has been reduced severely, now my CTR is 1/4 what i'm used to have !!!!, i don't know what's wrong with the design or placing, i changes the template and did few tweaks, but it turns out bad, i really don't want to return to the old template, it's ugly and collect many bounces unlike the new design that makes the single visitor stuck for a long time in the site, but somehow ignore ads...

my blog named "astromic's backyard" , sorry can't place links, but it is searchable easily in google.

please help me solve this riddle.
    thanks' guys..

What you can do is play around with the ads placement and setting, find out the placement/size that don't make your website look messy and give the good ctr, that's what you should do

Try to increase traffic. Are the ads relevant to your site? are consumers likely to be interested by the ads after reading your site? Thinkgeek may want to advertise on your page.

    hi

i would stop blogging. obviously you want to make money with your site but having only 200 UVs and only 300 impressions a day means that your site is really crappy.

so save your and our time and close it down.

sorry for wasting your time :),, but i'm not that kind of someone who surrender easily, i prefer working on it to the last breath, that's how i learn, as many does, including you i guess. i'm not into the money itself, but making money means a successful project,,,i have another forum and it brings thousandths of UV per day, and make money running by itself - so to speak - without massive work from me or the other webmaster, at least not like before...
thanks' for you advise and reply mate :)

45 good domains linking to you, a PR3 blog, and over 176 valuable back links. Daily visitors about 600, and ad revenue in an average 5$/day. Good Site :)

The main issue is the traffic you are getting are highly intellectuals. And sadly Google doesn't have too much advertisements for these people! But keep your good work, think of your own domain and you will get many direct advertisement offers especially from journals and conferences. That should be your target.

Firstly, move on to wordpress, get a self hosted wordpress blog.

Your current problem is traffic and not CTR. the click through can be later worked on, and since you say that you already have another high traffic site, i guess you already know the traffic generation methods. Just use those methods on this blog of yours...

In general, try adding an extra 336*280 ads unit, text only, at the top of the article, just below the title, surrounded with content on all sides... that will improve your CTR,
    cheers,

If you are looking to raise your CTR? I had the same problem. I moved myself over to WORDPRESS, and I still had the same problem. Then I realised, It's where you PLACE the ads.

I designed myself some nice ADSENSE themes for wordpress, they took me from 10pence a day to £10 a day in a week or 2 :)

    good luck my friend :)

except the 5$/day :), unfortunately the income is not stable at all, some days with 1-2$, and some days with zero$$, resulting to a crappy ctr at the end of the month.. and you
re right, my adsense choose not relevant' ads - not even close - to appear, apparently they don't have much ads for my topics, and that's something hardly i can change..

The ad unit you mentioned is great as many does advised me, the problem is blogger's flexibility, as you see every article i start with a main image to the right or the left and the first paragraph(the summary that's shows in the front page) is aligned to it's side, so that the view of the post summery is "escorted" by an image in the front page, so adding this type of ad "surrounded" by content will push the first paragraph to a thin vertical one that's stuck between the ad and the image, i can fix that by replacing the image a bit below, but it won't appear in the front page, which will hurt the homepage appearance severely without a relevant image to attract to the post, i hope there is a way to place the ad surrounded by the content and replace the main image down below, and in the same time showing that exact image in the homepage alongside with the summery, PLEASE IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SOLVE THIS ADVISE ME, IT WILL FIX ALL MY PROBLEMS AND MAKE MY "DREAM LAYOUT" COMES TRUE ;(...

yea, i'm sure if i tweaked what i mentioned above about the ad placing, that my ctr will be improved tragically..

please guys i'm desperately need help modifying this thing..

thanks' all for you sincere help, bless you all..

if you want to earn money with adsense, if that's your goal then you need to change topic.
if your goal is to earn money with adsense on this site, then you can only optimize your ad placement so much, there's a limit with the technical audience that's for sure.

336*280 text only ad below posttitle seem to be a common advice on the forum, test it and tell us about your progress.

    updates:
i tried placing a text block below the post title and within the first paragraph of the content, and i replaced the side scrapper with a search ad.

the ctr increased a bit, not as i was planning but it did, and it seems that this blog is not so common due to the articles itself, nowadays tech and science articles is not popular anyway and i will have to live with that :)..
