hi I've made a couple of micro niche sites and am creating backlinks to help boost them to the first page. So far I have just been using a list of bookmark sites digg etc and a copule of ezine articles. Any ideas on how I can improve on this? Would pinging the bookmarks help? Or should I just keep writing ezine articles until I get there, takes a week to get approved though?Forums and blogs are nofollow links generally but would they still help?

Haven’t you heard of panda attack? Many article sites like Ezine were badly hit by panda update due to “low spun contentâ€. You may as well go for blogging and social networking which are effective ways of building backlinks. Forums and blogs are ‘nofollow’ but they will still help you in gaining referral traffic
Try to built your back link profile with quality links. You no need to bother about quantity of less effective back links. 10 quality back link is much better than 100 of less quality links. Better you concentrate on quality and the most important is from related niches.
You can use other link building methods to improve your ranking. Diversifying your link building will give you a good chance of getting good quality backlinks.

I suggest you do blog commenting. Comment on high PR posts that are related to your niches. It will boost your backlinks and hopefully your rank too.

Thanks everyone for the input. I can't really do blog commenting as my niche is very small and a lot of blogs are no follow as well as forums. I have already posted to link directories and it can take ages for them to get them up and running. So far I have just been making new content and posting it to many social book mark sites. It has been working I think and ive been getting on to page 2. I just feel like I'm running out of things to write about on my site to send to social bookmarks to develop backlinks ya know. So what I'm going to do is just continue to do what I'm doing. Just write new content if I can, ping blog/new content, submit new content to many bookmark sites. Write unique related articles with backlinks as well. It could also be that google hasn't picked up my latest backlinks and content as well so it could still go further up hopefully anyway.
You might want to start building link wheels. This could help you a lot. Go to fiverr and get a link wheel for $5.
