    I want to build my own forum. As I am new I know nothing how can I build a forum. what should I do first to build a forum?

    So you have you hosting?
    The first thing you need to decide on is what software to use- I would suggest SMF.

    At first I have to have a hosting package and then use a forum software named SMF. Is SMF free or paid software? And what I do next?

    SMF is free software, it's very clean and easy to install. Next you need to design it i.e. add a template and a logo. Then you need to decide on what categories and boards you want to have on your forum. After that you need to open up your forum and encourage users.

    SMF is a great forum software. The only thing I would recommend is to also take a look at MyBB. It is very easy to install and will be a lot easier to maintain later on.

    I have downloaded SMF 2.0.1 and now I have to upload to host. Its a zip file of 2.5 MB. So I have extracted that file and I got some .php, .sql and folders. Do I have to upload all those files and folders?

    I love vBulletin forum software. But it is not affordable to me at this time.. It has more features than other free or commercial forum scripts. However I am currently using phpBB. Try it too. There is a large community to support you at phpBB official web site.

    vBulletin is a one time license. Have a look in the buy,sell, trade area- you may pick up a cheap one.
